Temporary phone # to send and receive calls?

Hi;

What is ther best way to get a temporary telephone # to send and receive calls?

I want to sell a car, etc. and don't want to post my regular cell phone #.

I want the buyer to be able to call the listed # which will ring on my cell phone and then when I return a call it will not show my regular number.

Google voice. log in to your gmail and look for it to turn it on or log in to gmail and type voice.Google.com

+1 google voice. I have a second number through GV that I use as my tech support number, so if I dont feel like being bothered all I have to do is disable it >

+1 for everyone saying Google Voice. Free and you can use it as long as you like. I have a Google Voice number I use for girls I meet, everyone else in my life uses my real number, lol. Its great because you get unlimited calls/texts on the GV number and you can block people from it easily when you're done with them

My family saves $20/month using GVoice for texting instead of Messenger app. In addition, you can get the nifty Chrome plugins for Voice (same as Gmail one if you have that), where you can text from any computer. Works fantastic at my work, since they keep me in a deep dark cave with no data signal at all. Still can text .

Lack of MMS is annoying, but not a deal breaker. Gmail works after all, and the wife gets most of that through Facebook. Toss in far superior call blocking ability, web access in a format nearly identical to Gmail, and Voicemail transcription... lots of good points.

You might not stop using GVoice once you start, though it does still have a couple quirks. Perfect for the limited use you are looking for now.

I set up google voice. I changed the setting on my Gnexus to ask each time I make a call as to use GV or not.
This does not seem to work. I never get a prompt as to what service to use. I want to make some calls that will only have my GV number shown on the caller ID of the receiver.
Is there a way to fix this? I tried to shut down my phone and restart but didn't work.

I don't use voice but you can use the app to start your call.

Did you actually sign up for a Google Voice number, or just download the application? You can't just download the app and go. You need to actually set up a GV number first. Not sure if that's the issue, but I've seen many people make that mistake in the past.

There is now the hushed app on the play store. Buy, use, sms from a temporary number. Drop the number whenever you want. Claims to be international too.
