TetherBerry for Android Devices!

This is actually a closed beta. Only the official beta testers will be able to run this application on their devices.

I'm kinda bummed because back when I was at the crackberry forums I won a copy of tetherberry for free. I thought all hope was lost when I switched to my Droid. I was hoping that when they switched to Tether I might be able to switch my service over, but I haven't asked yet.

How odd. I don't remember signing up for this Beta, but I got an e-mail link this evening. And I'm typing this message with it right now!

I just signed up for an android phone, but I want to hold off on signing up for beta testing until I can see if I can just switch the service over from my old BB to my droid..

This is actually incorrect. On another forum for this awesome phone they posted the .exe file for your pc which includes the droid .apk file and anyone can install and run this app.

Just because it is posted elsewhere does not mean it is intended to..

Tether has the ability to shut down those who are not approved, and will. I have spoken to them about that, because I wanted to double check before I blogged it whether it was an open or closed beta.

Closed beta, with ability to disable accounts.

Custom Rom with wifi tethering ftw. Why pay for something that you can get free with a little work?

Isn't tethering not allowed on Verizon? Or am I missing something?

Technically yes, 3rd party tethering apps are a violation of your TOS but there isn't a Verizon sanctioned tethering option available yet. As long as your not using it as your primary internet connection and not using an obscene amount of bandwidth, verizon will never know.

I'm glad they're making this an option, but I will stick with pdanet since I've already paid for it. Its actually my primary source of internet LOL. About all I ever do though is check some websites instead of using my Droid. If I need to download something I use my wife's storm since we pay for that through vzw. I'm hoping DSL actually becomes available by the end of the decade where we live!

I would pay for a Tethering App that allows for a wireless Bluetooth connection so I don't have to tote a USB cord with me when I travel. My Palm Treo 700p had wireless Bluetooth tethering. Why not the Droid?

Seeing as how I like to charge my phone while I'm away from home, and seeing as how the droid's stock charger is the usb cable, with an attached power adapter, I don't think this will be a problem for me.

has anyone else had a problem installing this to their android? i received the e-mail the other day and i downloaded the file to my PC. But when i select the install to android function, a black window flashes up and then away and thats all.

i have it both on my laptop and and droid but it its not connecting..

Check for some Google drivers that downloaded, those interfere with it. My friend had the same issue, removed those and the tether worked.

If Tether is the same price as it was for BlackBerry, ($50) then I wouldnt buy it. For half the price, I could use PDAnet and it works just fine. Why would someone pay more for the same functionality?

I concur. I beta tested Tetherberry when it was first available on the Storm and tried PDAnet and didn't notice a difference other than PDAnet being a lot cheaper. And as easy as it is to get wifi tethering on the droid, I'm not sure why anyone would pay for a 3rd party tethering option.
