Tethering Help

I might be the one wrong, LOL.

FWIW, I wasn't rooted last night when I tried every app and suggestion I found. Nothing worked. I finally took a deep breath and crossed my fingers and toes and rooted this morning. Something within HTC phones seems to block tethering unless you're rooted. At least that's what I think I know. :)

Exactly, which is why I rooted my first Rezound.

I was hoping maybe ICS had helped, guess not. :-(

I have set everything as you stated (wifi tether for root app???) But it still does not work.

Doesn't surprise me. I have nothing but grief tethering my Rezound. I will not root so I'm down to 2 options.

Buy a new phone that will work or switch to a Share Everything plan.

You can activate and deactivate the Hot Spot feature as you need it and you only pay for the days you use it. So if you activate it 5 times here and there during the month, your bill shows the full $30.00 charge, but also shows a credit for the number of days you did not use the feature. You just have to remember to deactivate it when you're not using it. By activate, I'm referring to either calling Verizon to turn the feature on and off, or going online and doing it on their website. A Verizon rep was kind enough to explain this to me when I called to activate it after my home WiFi went out. He said you can activate and deactivate it as many times as you want. It worked for me. I only used it one day and that's all I paid for.

I understand peoples fear of rooting and not wanting to, but it's really the best option. Even thought it "technically" voids your warranty, I have yet to hear a story on ANY boards I read that someone was denied a warranty claim or insurance claim due to rooting. There are no guarantees, but rooting is not that big of a deal. It's more of a fine print policy thing. VZW makes it tough as they can for you, but if the phone gets cracked, they don't really give you a hard time. Plus the VZW store reps know very little (if anything at all).

If he OP is going to be tethering rooting and tethering is better than giving up your unlimited plan. 6gb may cost you more each month accounting for a big difference over the life of your contract. Also, once you start tethering, you may find you use it a lot more than you think. Why sacrifice your unlimited when you don't have too? Mr. Smith has create great step by step posts and many here will gladly answer your questions if you get stuck. Rooting really is an eye opening experience, and it truly does unlock your phone......even if you don't do the ROM thing.

I used Hasoon2000's all in one toolkit to unlock, root, install Among RA, and Superuser. It was simple.

I am not interested in installing a ROM....yet. If I did anything at all, it be just rooting my device.
I know that unlocking with do a factory reset....is there any way to save all of my settings before doing so? I just got my phone exactly where I want it. Not really wanting to have to do it all over again ya know?
