Tethering Issue After Rooting

Hello all!!!
I finally have my phone to the point where I can start playing....O:-)

I have it rooted.....EL30 update.....running the stock Sprint ROM.....

I am able to connect through "OpenGarden" (a free wireless tethering app I found on the market that I no longer see is available?!!!) but when I try to connect through USB tethering under settings and wireless network, I get the following error.

Error 67
Registration Failure Your Sprint Data Service Password/Username
May be incorrect

I have done some research and found no real answer! I have even seen posts stating you need to reinstall the ROM back to stock to fix this? I have "updated my profile" as well to no avail....

OpenGarden does work...but it's too slow....and I like the security of a WIRED connection! I was able to tether a few months back on this phone (when it was rooted before the GB update) but since the GB update, I ALWAYS get this error!

I had to start from scratch when I installed the GB update (as I did it OTA) so I hope I don;t have to do it again....(guess I could do a nandroid backup....try it....and if it doesn't work....just restore...) Still a lot of work for something I HOPE has an easy fix!

I see clockwork has a tethering app (root not needed) but it cost $? And you need a program installed on the computer your connecting to.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but would running a different ROM fix this? I really don't NEED the factory ROM, I just am used to it.

ANY HELP would be great!

Using the Tethering under the Settings menu, runs through Sprints tethering plan. The registration failure is because your account isn't configured for Tethering. There are a few wireless tethering programs, but since you're rooted, there are methods to applying a hacked wifi tether. I know you prefer to use usb (and frankly it's not a bad idea for a desktop/laptop solution, since it'll keep your phone charged at the same time).

Awww...man!!! I thought "PAM" (phone as Modem) charges were gone with Sprint!!! I guess I never looked on the Sprint end! I thought rooting opened this option up via the "settings" option and USB.

You know...I did connect via wirelss on OpenGarden and I was getting some impressive speeds via 4G while I was streaming through my laptop watching my Sling box!!!

And suggestions on what program to use? OR....since clockwork kicks butt on OTHER things....I may just buy the app from them.....I don't mind giving them some $$$!
