Tethering plan limited to 2 GB :(

on a side note, does anyone have an idea how much you would need to use to be in the top 5% heavy users?

I know Comcast likes to use 250GB per month for their residential accounts... I switch our home connection to our 2nd connection once we hit 220GB

I may call a CS and see how they word it.. if I can get this later I'll wait to add it as I don't need the tether option yet but will need in in a couple months when we start traveling.

If it's a mistake, I will need to pony up now

It's not a mistake, Go ahead and confirm it if you want but while I don't work for Verizon, I DO work for an indirect retailer (selling their phones) and we were trained in depth about how the new data structure works. If you are on the 2GB plan and add the hotspot you will get two additional GB for a total of 4. If you go over you are charged $10/gb overage rather than by the KB like you used to be before this. .

I called Verizon, here is the deal.. this is the current deal for Granfathered Unlimited Data users..

it is unlimited Hotspot for $30 per month with a 4G Device..

If you for whatever reason you switched back to a 3G only smartphone, it would be 2GB..

Also, this $30 Hotspot unlimited option may change/be removed at anytime, without warning.. for some reason, she wanted to point that out.. perhaps just to get me to commit now though I said at the beginning of the call that I only had a question on a feature and that I did not want to make any changes today.

I have a feeling they will eventually drop that option all together - if you have it now, you get to keep it type of thing..

which is exactly what I said LOL

That's because it is considered promotional, but I would not worry about it since that stuff leaks out ahead of time and as long as you pay attention to the tech blogs you would have time to add it beforehand (kinda like the unlimited data),

I didn't refresh before your post :(

but you are right, will just wait until we need it or there is a head's up about removing that option..

That's what I am doing. I have a MiFi with truly unlimited data (plan that was discontinued two years ago but I am grandparented in on) so I don't really need it.

I suggest calling customer care. Not everyone in the stores are well informed on what is going on.
And if they say something that is really important, it is a good idea to have them note that information on your account. Have it in writing in case someone says differently. You never want to have it just be "their word":p

If you read the entire thread he did LOL

Thanks for the info. I will contact them also so that I can have it documented on my end.
I've also heard they could get rid of the unlimited hotspot at anytime. I need to keep my eye out to see if and when I need to purchase it before they change it.

I have seen others post on this saying they've received a notice for using as little as 10GB in a month.

Here's the thing though, some people have speculated on whether or not you get a notice depends on where you are using your data. Apparently, if you are consistently using high amounts of data in an area that is already strained for bandwidth, you're much more likely to get a notice than someone who accessing a less strained tower...which means it also stands to reason that if you're more "mobile" you're also less likely to get a notice than if you're using all your data from a single location (i.e. your home or office). Basically, in some locations you'll get a notice if you hit 10GB...in other locations, you may not.

UPDATE: Here's the thread I was thinking of...
Got my feature letter notification about the top 5 %

I don't see that is says the Hotspot is unlimited, just requires a unlimited data plan....

Here is what I get:

4G Mobile Hotspot

Mobile Broadband Connect

Use your Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Smartphone as a modem to get instant online access on your computer.

Mobile Hotspot

Using your 4G LTE Smartphone, share your data allowance with multiple Wi-Fi-enable devices. No additional drivers or software necessary.

Requires an unlimited data package / plan subscription of $29.99 or higher.

Additional Terms & Conditions apply.

That's it. Same one I have. They probably removed the words "unlimited" because as we all know, "unlimited" doesn't actually mean unlimited. (i.e. they will throttle your data if you use too much, etc).

2 other points of interest: If you have a corporate discount, that will be applied to the hotspot feature, so if you have one, you will get a few $$$ off. Also, I have heard that the rate will be pro-rated if you decide to REMOVE the feature, so you can try it for a week (or activate it if you're going on vacation and will need it, for example), and then turn it off and only pay for the time you've used, and not a full month. I can't actually confirm that, but I have seen others post to that being true.

They gave me unlimited tethering with the Bionic today, even tho I was expecting to pay for 2GB. Not sure why they told you it wasn't available. I'm only using it until I get internet set up at the new place anyways.
