I have given up on PDANET tablet to tether my droid charge to tablet due to constant problems. How can I connect the tablet to the phone? When I try using the USB cable it says high power device connected. Is my only choice to root my phone and/or root the tab to get net accessover my phone? I have searched for a solution and none of the recos worked.

Are you able to use your phone as a mobile hotspot? I use my HTC Desire like this connect to the net.

I was able to use hotspot widget before upgrading to charge to GB. I could go back to the orginal OS however I would lose the benefits like better battery life and data connection.

My stock Desire has Android 2.3 and in the pull down menu there is a wifi hotspot setting, no need for a widget.

The Galaxy Tab cannot access Ad-Hoc networks by default.

AFAIK you must root the device to enable it.. Here's a guide.

I may misunderstand you but is what I am doing not an Ad-Hoc network in using my cell phone in wifi hotspot mode?

Android tethering is done via ad hoc...
Routers and hot spots share a connection via infrastructure...

The tab doesn't support ad hoc.

I think it depends on the phone, I've used various wireless tether apps with my Thunderbolt with no issues whatsoever...but my tab and other devices don't see it as an "ad hoc" network, but rather infrastructure.

To the OP, you could always consider adding wireless hotspot through Verizon if you don't want to root (and, for that matter, keep things on the "up and up")...just sayin'

Wifi Hotspot and USB Tether by SVTP in the market has just been updated to work with Gingerbread on the Samsung Charge.

I would use the VZ service if it was not $30/month. I only use wifi hotspot once in a while. IMHO, vz should offer alower price plan with a data cap.
