Text message counter won't clear

I have the ZTE blade x max, from day one it has shown that I have unread messages, but I don't. I've cleared cashe, force stopped the message app. I am not using a 2nd party app and I don't have the Duo account set up either. Help?

Welcome to the forums! I would recommend downloading a third-party SMS app, like Textra, and seeing if the issue persists.

Have you scrolled through every message thread you have on the phone?

Which carrier are you on?
