Hey all
I have the s22+
I had changed the notification sound for my text messages

But it still uses the default tone when I get new messages

When I go into the app settings
Under Notification
My tone is what I changed it too?

Had the s20 and did not have this issue

Hi welcome to AC!
Is this Google messages or Samsung messages?
You selecting from a custom or stock notification sound?

Welcome to Android Central! If you get a message from someone who doesn't already have an existing thread, do you hear the new default tone?

Yes
It always is the default tone
Only way it changes is if I go into contacts and do each individually

Than non contacts will have the default tone

Are you changing the tone in the app or in settings. I didn't like that app and use Google messages.

Change the notification sound in sounds and notifications to silent.

Then set the tone within the messaging app.

I use textra and this is my setup.

If you use tones for other apps like email you may have to go through each app and reset the tone since the system is set to silent.

I didn't want to start a new thread but I have a bunch of notification tones I used to use all the time they were in a folder called Notifications I think somehow their on my phone now and I see them. Their my own tones that play clips of songs for different people. I switched back to Google Messages because of the specific text tone and now none of mine work anymore and it says sorry the player doesn't support this type of audio. I have them all on my old computer so I can't look but I would think they were mp3 or 4 I don't remember. Certain ones I got off Zedge work though but I have songs for ringtones also and some play and some say the same thing as they do when I am under text and notfications.

Using a file manager app (like My Files or Files by Google), search for one of those sound files and see what kind they are.

Since you still have the sound files on your computer, you can also try copying them over again, in case they got corrupted on your phone for some reason.

Looks like you are not on One UI 5.0 yet as all the settings screens for Samsung Messages are all different now. Just wait until you get that update.
