Text Message Preview on Lockscreen

Hi everyone. I've searched the Internet and these forums for a solution to this problem and have come up empty-handed. I have never used an Android phone prior to my GS3, which I upgraded to yesterday. So far, the only major feature (aside from tap-to-top for browser instead of just contact list) I don't have which is driving me crazy is being able to see text messages and missed calls on the lockscreen. Specifically, I would just like to see the name of the contact, not a full text preview.

I have my lockscreen set to pattern unlock, which I think might be the reason I'm having such a hard time with this. Apparently, this is easy to do with a swipe-to-unlock setup. However, I would like the security of the pattern. Is there any way to accomplish what I'm looking for without drastically changing the appearance of my lockscreen? I tried Executive Assistant but it added an ugly swipe screen with ads at the top...

I use Handcent for messaging and allows for the preview. Not sure what to use for the missed calls.

GoSMS will also provide the text message preview. I use Widget Locker which will show me missed calls, but its a swipe-to-unlock also. If you insist on pattern unlock, then I don't know what to say about missed calls - except that maybe the app developers figure those who are security-minded enough to prefer pattern-locking will also not want personal info like who's called you on the screen.
