text message receive time is ~4hrs prior to sent message

Hello,

any suggestions as to why text messages received are several hours behind - makes the conversation flow difficult?

ie.
send a text to wife, she answers but the timestamp is 4.5 hrs earlier!

I have tried to change Menu > Settings > Date & Time > to automatic / manual (with a reboot) with the same results. Also the wife phone is set to the correct time.... plus it is happening with texts from other people as well.

Is there another setting that I am missing?
Suggestions?

this sometimes happens when you are roaming, is that the case? Never had it happen went sent across a Sprint connection.
