Android Central Question

I have a contact named “ABC Products” all in the Last Name field field. Tel # 999.999.9999.

Three employees of the company are in my contacts: John Doe, Fred Hoe, Jim Moe. Each has the same switchboard telephone number as above.

I need to send a general text message to the switchboard number – not to any of these employees as an employee whom I don’t know in a different department will pick it up.

Every time I am in ABC Products contact and hit the Text Message button, it creates a text message with the name John Doe on it. Aaargh! I have tried everything, even to the point of deleting John Doe as a contact – but his name still show up under text messages! I do not want the message to indicate it is for John Doe as it isn’t.

How do I get rid of this annoying and absurd problem!

My guess is that your SMS app is selecting the first or last contact entry based on the order that the entries were created.

For each contact entry with the same switchboard number, is there a separate, unique ID like an extension number?

Which phone?
Which version of android?
Which carrier?
Which SMS app?

Even more important - "switchboard" indicates a land-line rather than SMS-capable mobile devices. SMS doesn't support sending messages to extensions as would be used with a switchboard.
