Text Messages are out of order

so... basically i'll send a text to someone and their reply will appear above my original text, unless they reply 5-10 minutes after i sent the text.

for example:
Me: hey, how's it goin?? - 6:02
Them: Good how are you - 6:01

but it will look like this on my phone:
Them: good how are you 6:01
Me: hey, how's it goin???

i've put up with it for almost 2 years now, but recently i was put into a group chat and i am so confused it hurts i tried fiddling around in the settings but nothing really changed SEND HELP

It would seem that your phone's clock is out of sync with the cellular network's clock.
In your phone's settings, check to see that your date and time settings are set to "automatic" or the like.

Which phone?
Which version of android?
Which carrier?
Which SMS app?
