Looking for an app that will be able to get text messages from my phone to my tablet. I know apps like air droid are good for computers... Anything app wise that isn't Google voice?

Agreed i had used TextPlus on my iPod touch a few years ago works well enough.

Install DeskSMS on your phone, and you can send and receive texts through Google Talk on your tablet. Works really well.

Are you trying to get the native text messages on your phone to show up on the Nexus 7? Curious as to why you don't want to use Google Voice.

I love Tablet Talk. It is by far the MOST ESSENTIAL app since I got my Nexus 7.

Since N7 is only WiFi, I was really missing my SMS messaging and telephony. Tablet Talk restores both.

Just install the program on your Android phone (in my case, Galaxy Nexus) AND the N7, and link the two by BlueTooth or WiFi. When you get a text message, it pops up on both devices, and you can answer on either, and the entire conversation is preserved on both.

Better yet, when I get a phone call on the GN, it also pops up on the Nexus 7 and I can answer it from the N7! And the sound quality is great, though it is best with a headset, either wired or BlueTooth.

CORRECTION: Phone call answering only works when you have a Bluetooth connected to the phone. Due to limitations of Android, the tablet's speaker and mic cannot be used for active calls on your phone.

I highly recommend it. Well worth the 3 or 4 bucks I spent.

I'm having a real problem getting tablet talk to stay connected over Wifi. Anybody else?

Yes. I haven't been too happy with it. Is there anyway I can use Google Voice for text messaging only where it will show my real number. I tried GV several years ago and it became somewhat of a mess.

If you have sprint, yes - it integrates fully... other carriers not so much.

Just installed tablet talk and I didn't realize its only SMS and no MMS. So when people send photos it doesn't come across. Is this correct? I've looked in the settings and could not find anything.

Ahh... This explains a problem I was having yesterday. I do love Tablet Talk, though, so this won't be a deal- breaker for me... I'll just be sure to check the phone every once in a while. An MMS is a rarity around here.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I prefer TextTab to Tablet Talk.

Just sayin, if you want an alternative :)

edit: typo - it's TexTab

edit: After further testing, I actually prefer Tablet Talk over TexTab. Sorry for the confusion. LOL

There is also an app called smssync that does the same thing but uses dropbox instead of bluetooth connection which is kinda cool. Haven't tested it on the 7 though so not sure how it works with Jellybean.

I use desksms. It allows sms messages to come in through my gtalk client. I originally started using so that I can get and reply to sms messages on my laptop. Now I use gtalk as my only chat/sms client on both my gnex and nexus 7. The only thing it won't do is mms. It will tell you that someone sent an mms and you'll have to read it through your actual chat client.
