When I get a text message ( I use the stock text message app on my Pixel 2XL) I only can see the sender's last message. I can't scroll back to see any previous messages. I also have not figured out how to look at previous messages from other people.

Is there a better way to do text messaging or it is what it is?

I know on the iWatch paired with with an iphone it is possible to scroll through previous text messages, I figure there must be a way to do the same with the Gear 3.

Install Yaata

I searched the gear 3 app for Yaata, if found nada. I also searched for SMSGear which may solve my problem but could not find that either.

I can find lots of watch faces, where are the apps, or what is the best way to find them and download?

I'm not sure about stock messaging app on Pixel, but I use Textra as the default on my S8+ and I am able to see the entire conversation.

I don't think what SMS app I have on the phone matters. It is the SMS app on the watch. Actually I don't seem to have a SMS app on the watch. I get SMS notifications, but I only see the message from the notification. I can reply to that message in the notification, but I can't see previous messages from that person.

So if someone sends 2 or 3 messages in a row, I only see the last one on the watch. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I can't figure out how to find a specific Gear 3 app like Yaata or SMSgear and get it on my watch. Searching apps on the gear 3 app on the phone does not find them. I can scrolled through the different categories of apps to download on my phone but I still could not spot them.

Probably was a mistake getting Samsung watch with non Samsung phone. Messaging barely works and taking calls on the watch works, but then i can't take a call on the phone because I can't hear the other person unless I disconnect the phone connection in Bluetooth for the gear 3 watch. Frustrating.

The app that you use on your phone does matter. I do not have any 3rd party texting applications on my watch but I do use Textra on my phone and I'm able to see the entire conversation. Try downloading Textra and having someone text you. You should see an option to show more and that will give you entire text message convo.

Yes I meant Yaata on the phone too. Maybe same thing with this for the additional lines...

You are correct Brotatochip. Downloaded textra to phone, get option to view more messages on the watch.

Now if I could only set it so I could answer phone calls on the watch without messing up taking calls on my phone.

I have a Note 8 and an S3 Frontier. I use Verizon's Message+ for texting and I get the entire conversation on my watch. Even puts each text in a bubble. This is just FWIW.

What's happening with the text messages is that the messaging app on the watch only syncs with the native Samsung Messaging app found on Samsung phones. You don't have to use the native app on a Samsung phone as a default, the watch will still sync the two in the background.

So on a non-Samsung phone, all you're really getting on the watch is the notification from the messaging app on the phone. Essentially the watch will mirror the notification curtain on your phone. Some messaging apps allow you to view more from the notification itself, so that's why you see can see more on the watch when using Textra. But the messages are still not stored on the watch itself like they would if you were using a Samsung phone.

Even with Samsung phones, we see the same behavior when using a messaging app like Google Hangouts or Facebook Messenger. There is no native app for the watch (Tizen OS), so it just gets the notification from the phone which you can reply to, but once the notification is dismissed, there is no way to retrieve any conversations or messages from those apps on the watch.

While the watch does many things, in most cases it's simply a relay for notifications. There isn't true two-way communication between the watch and phones.

As for the calling issue, not sure what's going on there. In this case, the watch should operate no differently than a Bluetooth earpiece or headset. So sorry, I can't help there.

I read a post a long time ago that said to download and install Android Ware but NOT to set it up.

I've been able to access and follow text conversations using a OnePlus 3T and now my OnePlus 5T.

Clearing notifications does clear the conversation. To get around this I'm using a watch face called redzpro24. It allows me to access (view and reply) to the texts even after notifications have been cleared.

There's probably other watch faces that allow this but I'm happy with what I'm using.

What I really like about textra is my contacts each has there own color assigned and this color also displays on the watch pretty cool also able to read full conversations, I don't reply very often from my watch though
