Text Messaging Issue

I'm having an issue receiving text messages from my Dad and I didn't before. I've texted a few other people including his wife so I know it's not an overall texting issue.
I'm using the Android Messages app and it seems like he can receive texts from me but i'm not getting them from him in that app. I checked and they are actually coming through in the stock LG messaging app which is not the default app at the moment. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't disable or uninstall the LG app of course.

You can't disable or uninstall the LG app, but you can try force stopping it to see if that lets the texts go through to the other app. You should also clear the cache as well and restart the phone.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work. I should also mention he is on AT&T and i'm on Verizon. I received texts from his wife who is also on AT&T and they are together. I've tried check to see if I blocked the number but not sure how. He called me earlier and I receive the texts in the other app so I doubt that would help anyways

Try a different SMS app like Textra to see if it's an issue with just Android SMS.

I will try it out tomorrow. Getting too late to deal with this. I was hoping there would be a somewhat easy solution. I should know better lol.

Textra works but now for some reason there are two text conversations with him. So the issue is with Android Messages. I would still like to figure out how to fix it because I like that app the most. So if anyone has any more thoughts or suggestions please let me know......

Maybe this should be moved to a different topic since it's not an issue with the V30?

Doesnt solve your issue but Google Hangouts has been working flawlessly for me from the get go. I think it gave me the option to choose a default when I first started - cant remember exactly

Of course, I performed a phone transfer which likely retained software settings/assignments from my previous phone. That transfer has saved me alot of headaches I am starting to suspect while reading everyone's experiences. lol

Yeah that doesn't help lol but thanks for the info anyways. I used to use Hangouts but then started using Android Messages and just like it a lot more..... Actually I thought they split SMS from Hangouts and that's why there's Android Messages but maybe not.

It's very strange that he's the only one I'm having an issue with. He got the Galaxy S8 a week before I got this and texted me once. I want to say it's phone but since he did text me on my old phone and it came through that doesn't make sense. My last resort will be a factory reset but I'll wait until this weekend to do that.

I ended up doing a factory reset and was able to receive a picture from my Dad in Android messages but not a text. He still gets mine. I also deleted his contact info but he hasn't text me back since that so I'm not sure if that helped.

Anyone else having any issues using Android Messages? If I switch to Textra and receive a free texts, then switch the default back to Android messages it looks like it's trying to load messages that just aren't there. It was doing that before the factory reset too.

Have your dad delete your contact info and put it back in and try again. Did either of you come from an iPhone?

He didn't try that yet. I'll have to wait until I see him next to do that. He doesn't really want to be bothered.

No neither of us had I phone before. I had a Nexus 5x and he had Galaxy S7. I've read about people on S8 having texting issues but it doesn't seem like it's the same as mine.

The Galaxy S8 and + are having disappearing text issues, so I think the problem is on your dad's end:

It isn't just you. I recently found out that I have been missing a ton of messages on Android Messenger. Just random texts from multiple people not coming in. Seems like it happened after the 10/2 update.

Well that makes me feel better knowing it's not just me. Like Chriskwarren did though, Galaxy S7 is having issues too. It's not the same issue as I'm having though. I want to say is him but until I get my hands on his phone I guess I'm limited on what I can do. I just thought there might be some setting or a trick to try and see.

I looked at the thread you have me. I'm guessing you were referring to the last post where someone said to remove the app from sleeping apps in the battery menu? My battery menu have power saver exclusions. I checked Android messages on and I'm waiting for my Dad to answer to see if it works.
