Texts / Phone calls not being received (ICS or Sprint issue)?

Hello again.

Ok, here's an update.

I switched my galaxy Note for an HTC One X before Christmas (also Android) but, as I found out later, it has a known very poor wifi problem (I had to be 3 feet away from the router for it to pick up!) I sent it back immediately.

I was then told by 02 that I had to choose the next phone carefully as I wouldn't be able to switch models again (what even though it's not working, 02???)? I said I'll try a new Note and hopefully the not receiving/merging issues would go away. IT HASN'T and I'm very annoyed, which I was previously as well. Same problems as before (read my post number 8). We had a week of our first message never arriving, on top of the usual regular non receiving and merging text issues.

It has been sent off to be 'fixed' which I told them in the shop I don't think it will do. I am to collect it today, but it'll be the same, I've got no doubts about it and I'll be going straight back in to tell them, because it really is unacceptable. Full price payments for a phone which half works, is unacceptable. I even wrote out a page and a half of trial and error notes for their engineers to guide them. The guy in the shop said that in 9 1/2 years of working for 02 nobody has supplied anything like it. I said I don't have the time to write it(!) and only did it because I'm so annoyed and don't want them to fob me off that nothing was wrong with it and they carried out their usual tests blah blah.

To add to what we know already, my girlfriend's phone was upgraded just before Christmas (she is on Orange) from an iphone 4, she's never had problems before. UNTIL NOW, where she has the ANDROID based Galaxy Ace 2. On top of that, I was speaking to my friend on the weekend and he said his Galaxy Ace 1 (Android) did the same thing until he sold it and hasn't had any problems with his iphone 4s.

I am convinced through all the trial and errors which we've done and I've heard from others that it is now definitely Android related, through however it occurs. Simple fact is that when on Android it happens, when not, it is fine. I won't be using their products again.

Once this Note starts the problems again when I pick it up tonight, I'm telling them I'm switching models again as it is not 'fit for purpose' as in the Sale of Goods Act. It's beyond a joke.

I just want what I'm paying the full amount for, a correctly working phone. Nothing extra.

What I would say, is would others please number texts to their partner, like I have and encourage others to do the same to really highlight this big problem.

I've had 3 Dell Streaks and 2 Galaxy Note's. If, hypothetically, I had kept the first Streak with all its issues, then there are 2 other people in the UK with those faulty Dell Streaks and 2 other people with the Galaxy Notes. The problem isn't just me, it is widespread.

Why exactly are you posting this in a Sprint thread?

Is it possible it is your router, and not the phones themselves? Also, were you on an iPhone at any point? There are plenty more people than that with faulty phones, none of which could related to your issue.

Same thing with my partner, we both have Samsungs running android. It can be very frustrating especially as we are recently having to cope with a long distance thing, text is literally our only form of communication at times. My theory is that the Android system cannot cope with the quick backwards and forwards of messages, we treat sms like instant messaging and I wonder if their systems just can't hack it? X

Effie, can you give us a little to go on? There are 23 posts ahead of yours, with multiple people describing multiple problems. Which one is the "same thing"?

Try telling us exactly what your problem is, and what you've already done to try and resolve it, and maybe we can help. Right now we don't know enough to even guess. But given that Sprint's network probably handles billions of text messages a year, I doubt that the few you and your partner send are overloading it. And my son and his (ex) girlfriend used to send 8 to 10 thousand texts a month (literally), I'm pretty sure Android can handle it.

I have had exactly the same issues for 2 YEARS. Wondering if you ever resolved it and if you have a reliable phone now.

Re: Texts / Phone calls not being received

I came across this thread because I was having problems sending outgoing texts with my new HTC Desire 626 (on Lollipop). On the Samsung Galaxy S3, which I also own, I couldn't send MMS messages if I was on a Wi-Fi connection. MMS messages would not send/receive until until I was on a data-only connection (forced by toggling the Wi-Fi off). With the HTC Desire I found that any and all outbound texts would fail after several attempts. On the rare occasion they went out, recipients complained that they appeared out of order. Mostly, though, they didn't go out all (I instead kept seeing a red triangle icon indicating a failed attempt).

It's an old thread now but I am posting to indicate how I fixed the problem in case this helps someone else: Go to "System Updates" in your settings menu (usually at the bottom of the list). Depending on your model it may be worded a bit differently but what you are looking for is the area in your settings where you can check for software, firmware, network or profile updates. Check for all possible network/software/profile updates and reboot your phone. It solved the problem for me.

If this doesn't solve the problem, try downloading an alternative messaging app in the Playstore. You are not limited to the stock messaging app in many Android phones. Try another one if the stock app continues to fail and the profile/software updates don't help.

I want to add one more thing that I learned that may also help those who are attempting to make use of a microSD card. You may need to format your microSD card, if it is brand new or was previously formatted on a computer for use with another device, inside your smartphone or tablet. If it is not (re)formatted before use, the card may not read correctly and/or the capacity will read less stated. If you still can't make use of a particular microSD card in your Android device, it may be that there is an upper limit on how big (number of gigabytes) the device can make use of. Some devices, like the HTC Desire 626, can support 200GB microSD cards and others 128GB. But many older smartphones and tablets can't go beyond 32GB or 64GB capacity cards so you will need to check your device specs before you buy a microSD card. Remember, too, it will depend on what flavor of the Android OS is installed in your device as to how much storage capacity you can obtain from a microSD card. While it's typically possible to save photos and videos and the like to a microSD card no matter what version of Android you are using, only some versions of Android support the ability to run apps from SD — otherwise users are forced to make do with a smartphone or tablet's internal memory for all app downloads.

As to the general troubleshooting of text/call send and receive problems:

If the problem crops up on a brand new new phone, it may be a glitch in the activation that's causing the issue and it may be necessary to update or hard-reset the phone. The problem will either be on your end or it will be necessary for your service provider to push an update or reset through. If, on the other hand, you've been using your phone successfully and the problem crops up suddenly it could be something you recently downloaded — some battery savings apps will "deep sleep" your data connection, for instance — or it may be a cell tower maintenance or network issue that the carrier has to fix within your coverage area.

Newsview, My wish to thank you caused me to register for this forum. Before reading your advice I was at my wit's end with all in-coming texts for two days not having arrived. Everything else I found online on the topic, including advice in this thread, either clearly didn't apply or was way too technical for me. No general good advice seemed to be out there on what to do first when one's messages are not arriving.

Following your advice I went to Settings, did updates, and restarted phone. (Also noticed Bluetooth was on and turned it off in case that would make a difference.) Then I telephoned a friend and asked him to text me. With the arrival of his text, an additional 40 texts poured in during the next few minutes (the phone was whistling like crazy); all the missing conversations that I had been worried about are now accounted for. Whew!

When I did the updates, I noticed a message that one part (it may have been Samsung software) had updated two days ago; perhaps messages stopped arriving after that update due to a need to complete other updates.

Thank you so much for taking time to add your comments to an old forum. You were exactly right in thinking someone still may benefit.

Re: Texts / Phone calls not being received

NewsView, Please see my note of appreciation, I meant to post it as a Reply but instead it seems to be a separate post.

Lately I have been having a HORRIBLE issue with texts not being received from others and phone calls not coming through. I've noticed that it seems to only happen with my friends who have iPhones. Tonight my friend showed me her screen of our text convo and some of her texts I never received. I have been told this has happened with a few of my friends as well (they happen to have iPhones). My cousin tried calling me to tell me that my cousin (her brother) got into a bad car accident and I NEVER got the phone call. She showed me her call log and she did call me. TWICE! Is this a Sprint issue or an ICS issue??? I've updated PRL many times and doesn't seem to do anything. Will updating to this new LI3 help do you think? Any suggestions, help? Please and thank you in advanced!

Re: Texts / Phone calls not being received

My boyfriend and I both have Android, but I have Verizon and he has Sprint... After 3 days of me texting him and calling him, I stopped at his house to see what was going on... He never received any of the texts or calls or voicemails... He went to Sprint the next morning 8ng and had them refresh his phone and then he got all of them... 4 days later... I think it may be a SPRINT issue... Anyone else having this issue?
