Texts remain as unread on phone after opening on watch

I noticed that if I get a text and read it on my watch that it still remains on my phone as a new message on the lock screen. Is this normal? I would think since the watch and phone communicate with each other that the phone would know it was read on the watch.

Did you find a fix. I also have this problem. Nothing I have done fixes it and makes the watch inefficient.

Nope it's so dumb.

Sounds like maybe it's a glitch with the lock screen notification not updating after you clear it on the watch. If you always just see the notification on the watch first then you could change the message notification to "hide on lock screen" then you wouldn't ever see it on there.
