The OP is right in that the DX "OS Upgrade" IS comparable to the crap that was released for the S2, and S1 for that matter. Thats where the comparison ends.

Remember Mike Lizardus, ceo of RIM said the future of smart phones was buggy OS's? Everyone freaked out when he said that, looks like he was right.

The similarities of the DX forums to the Storm forums are scary. I swear everyone that b1tched about the Storm bought a DX, changed their screen names and moved boards. I know I did.

All I ask for is to be able to go back to 2.1. This was a great phone on 2.1. And yes, when a phone changes the ringtone to silent and you miss calls, that is a major problem. The storm at least had it so the ringtone worked. I can understand bugs here and there, but the ringtones is not a understandable bug, they should work. Motorola should be willing to let us go back to a official OS if a person wants to, but motorola is more concerned with locking the phone down so we cant do that. RIM has the upper hand here on changing OS.

And yes, I love the droid x more then the storm 2, that is the reason I am putting up with the ringtone issue at the moment instead of going back to the storm. And the bottom line is, motorola knows this is a issue along with other issues, and they even said they believe they know what the problem is that is causing the ringtone issue but instead of releasing the fix, we get to suffer thru missing calls. I dont know, but a business man missing calls probably is costing him money, or missing calls from the boss, not a good deal. Motorola and verizon should have been all over this getting it fixed ASAP. They both said that they are going to be on top of the droid x and making sure things are fixed promptly, but then again that was when the apple was having issues with the antenna.

Im with the OP on this one, I never had a Storm of any sorts so i cant say its worse or not, but moto definitely screwed the pooch on this one update, how about a bug fix release, why wait until gingerbread.

All the other phones from other carriers are getting maintenance updates while we reboot our phones multiple times a day. I really am tired of answering my phone and not being able to hear someone. I receive phone calls from unknown numbers, businesses and such that i cannot call back directly. Once you drop the call these places tend not to call you back.

A phone is a phone and should work as a phone first before anything else. I said this back when the update came out. At least make the phone work as a phone. Make it ring consistently, allow you to answer the call and actually hear someone. If they put out a bug fix that allows all functions of the telephone portion to work i would be happy. Email, text, web browsing all that comes secondary to me (and highly used mind you). Moto really needs to put out bug fixes and service packs. Rooting and rom-ing your phone is not a solution to a supposedly finished product. It's not like they gave us a beta release and told us it may contain bugs.... it was an official s**tty release that needs to get fixed

My X runs great. Install a custom ROM like ApeX. That's what I'm running and my ringtones (as well as everything else) run perfectly. Before you say that shouldn't have to do that, it's the same thing you described with your bb...being able to install a different OS if you don't like the latest/greatest.

Ok, but for us that know nothing about computer programming, installing stuff that is easier said then done. I have no problem doing something to make the phone work as long as I can set it back to factory if I need to send it in for warranty.

Edit...I also agree, the customer should not have to root, add ROM's to the phone to get it to work.

I would advise anyone experiencing issues just to be patient. I have learned that it may take a couple of updates to get a new phone working correctly. I have had these issues with every smartphone that I have ever owned. Unless you get a smartphone that is near its end of life, the device will have some issues to be addressed. No phone manufcturer or platform is any better. BlackBerry, iPhone, WP7 owners have the same complaints about their phones. Give the X a chance. Soon, these issues will be corrected. I had a similar reaction to my EVO. The calendar application had bugs and the phone was laggy after the Froyo update. I wasn't patient and switched carriers and got the X. A week later, there was an update to the EVO that addresses all of those issues. Now I am completely happy with my X, but it was a bonehead idea to get rid of the EVO so soon because of buggy software.

There's no arguing that this update is a lousy one. And I'm sure that there will be plenty of other updates...some that suck and some that are mostly good. But we all have a choice to make...is it more pleasurable to complain about what's wrong, or to fix it? Some people like to complain, and that's OK, but the problems can always be resolved if anyone wants to resolve them. Rooting and ROMing is not rocket science...it's a little bit of reading/research and a couple of button clicks. You don't have to write any code.

Complain about it or fix it...either way works for the individual. Just know that there are choices.

its also voiding the warranty which some of us do not wish to do. I am more than capable of rooting a phone, maybe when its out of warranty ill mess with it, but while its still within a factory 1 year warranty, this is not worth it to me at least.

I'm running 2.2 on my DX with no real noticeable problems. My phone says "Diabeetus" every time I get a text/email/etc.

Anyway, as far as the Storm? oh lawd. I remember when I bought the thing having to put up with .075 OS because I didn't even know about upgrading them. You want bad? Go back and experience the original storm on .075. You'll be begging for the DX back in no time.

Just thought I would like to thank motorola for making the droid x as bad as the storm 2, maybe even worse.

I loved this phone on 2.1. Updated to the 2.2 and not so much anymore. The ringtone problem is a major pain. Yesterday I had to reset my phone 4 times because the ringtones stopped working. I dont ever recall having to reset my storm 2 4 times in one day.

This is a 2.2 issue, has nothing to do with apps, motorola knows about the problem, but seem to think taking their time to get a update out to fix the problem is ok.

Yesterday, I discovered after the ringtone/notification stops working, I go into settings, sd card, select unmount sd card, then select mount sd card fixes the problem.

I have 3 droid x's on my account, 2 have this ringtone issue, 1 does not. The one that does not have the problem is still on 2.1. The one benefit that blackberry has over android is that with blackberry, you could at least go back to the older version. With motorola, they made it so you can not, and from what I have read, if you try to go back to 2.1, there is a high chance of bricking your phone.

So in closing I would like to thank motorola for ruining the phone with 2.2. I would give anything to go back to 2.1. And for the ones that 2.2 is working great for you, I am jealous. I wish I was in the same boat.

I have read that there is a update coming for the droid x, but I am worried that it will be a verizon update to add more bloatware, and not from motorola to fix what they screwed up.

I have had 1 dx, and never had those issues. Whew, must of got the last good one.

I'm not trying to get anyone to root, or do anything else to their phone they don't want to do. I'm just impressing that the problems can be fixed, if you want to fix them. As far as the act of rooting goes, it's not like duct taping a stick of 40 year old dynamite to your phone with your grandmothers yellowed plastic alarm clock as a timer. It just gives you access to other parts of your phone. Kind of like the gas pedal in your car. If you keep it on the floor all the time, it's dangerous, but you get to decide how far you depress it.

In regards to warranty, out of the hundreds of thousands of rooted devices, tell me about one single instance you have first hand knowledge of (not your uncles, cousins, best friends daughter) when a replacement or service of any kind was denied because of rooting. As long as it's not smashed or pried apart with a screwdriver, they don't care.

i dont understand your analogy... as for the hundreds of thousands of devices i only pay attention to 1, and thats mine, so i cant answer that question for you, my uncles cousins best friend doesnt have a daughter, and i dont know anyone else in my personal life that owns a droid x, hence the reason i come to the forums to talk about issues/concerns/thoughts about this device to find out if its just me experiencing problems... and its not just me, so now i feel better about myself and i can sleep at night and dream of software updates and bug fixes knowing im not the only one...

Even though it technically voids the warrenty, I have never heard of anyone who rooted having an issue with a warranty claim. That's what SBF's are for.

I feel your Droid X froyo pain. My Droid X acts just as wierd. So does my wife' DINC. In fact so does my buddy's Evo. Lets face it. Froyo sucks. All of the privileged early adopters of froyo were ranting and raving about how fast the phones were with froyo. Then all of us mindless sheep couldn't wait for our 2.2 update.Now all I want is my 2.1 back and so does alot of us. I don't even want to talk about my wife's Dinc post 2.2 battery life. (no app killer..cough) While our mild manner reviewers couldn't forsee all the froyo problems. I just wish they would not have jumped to worshiping the update so soon. Clearly the con's outway the pro's but I know the froyo fan boys will defend it to the bitter end. But the proof is in the pudding..and in the android central forums.
