The 480p Only Youtube is back

I don't mean to be a jackass, but knowing what phones aren't affected doesn't help.

Actually, it could be important information. There might be important patterns that arise--like, for example, are the affected devices with certain carriers? Do the affected devices have fairly heavy skins? Are the affected devices newer or older? You've already mentioned that it seems like newer flagships--these are more likely to have been updated to Marshmallow recently, so maybe there's a common bug in the updates?

I can get my Nexus 5 (LG) to limit to 480p by telling it to limit usage unless on wifi and turning off the wireless (forcing it to mobile data).

Anyone have any luck on a fix yet?

All data limiters are disabled, all software is up to date (multiple times over) , all cache and data has been erased and reset.

OnePlus 3, LG G5, LG K8, and Samsung Galaxy S7 are some of the devices known to suffer from this issue with YouTube version 11.23.56

On what networks?

Posted via the Android Central App on the Moto X Pure Edition

Also, accessing the website, be it the mobile version or the desktop site, doesn't help. I can't even manually select a quality.

Curious... what is your network speed? If my network speeds (either wifi or cellular) are slowing down (~20Mbps or less) the higher res YT videos will bog down and buffer. I am at my cousins now, and her wifi is running 90-110Mbps and it smoothly plays all YT vid content at the highest resolutions. I wonder if there is something in your network provider or cell carrier that's restricting it?

My average on my T-Mobile LTE is 35 ping, 65 down, 15 up (megabits). I can watch 1440p Unbox Therapy videos just fine. Most videos, the vast majority of my subscriptions, are limited to 480p.

It seems to be an issue with this version of the YouTube app. I can't say for sure though, as it's the only version (other than factory, which has the same issue) that I've had.

I don't know if anyone else with a G5 is having the same issue, as I haven't seen any posts. I have seen posts from 2014 with the LG G3 having this issue. None mentioned what the fix was.

Hey i havr oneplus3 since a week now, and I really love it. But one tiny thing is really annoying. Not on all but maybe 70% of all Youtube Video don't have a higher Resolution than 480p to choose. I look on my pc and there I can watch the Videos on 1440p. Does anybody have a solution for this?
LG

PS: sry for my bad english

My Huawei P9 (EVA-L19) has this problem too :(

Anyone got a fix for this?

I'm having the same issue on my Huawei P9 Plus (VIE-L09), seems to have been going on for a few weeks now. This is in Denmark both over 4G LTE on 3 and WiFi.

So, I sent a report in via the email option under "Help and Feedback" in the YouTube app. For some reason went directly to Purchase Support. They said they can submit the case, with all information I've provided (including this thread), to their specialists. I just need to show

1. A screenshot on your mobile device of a YouTube video with the video quality settings only showing 480p available
2. A screenshot of the same video on your desktop computer or another device where the video quality settings show that a higher resolution is available.

Waiting for a friend to get off work so I can get a screenshot of the higher resolutions from his phone, as I don't have a desktop anymore. I'm really hoping they don't just blow me off. This 480p ****'s getting old.

I'd recommend everyone else having this issue to do the same.

Sure I can grab a screen cap and post it here if you like.

Do you have a link to the vid you want me to use?

Having the same problems with a Sony Xperia X in Finland on Sonera network. Seems like it's definitely the YT app that's to blame.

I got a screenshot and sent it to Google. As soon as they had it they said it must be my device, because the other phone showed a higher resolution. That was the fu¢king point of the screenshot. They completely blew me off.

Btw, update 11.25.55 fix this for anyone? Not for me on my LG G5. Also, it says on the Play Store that this update came out on June 30th, but I just got it today. I've been checking every day for an update, and today was the first time it showed up.

can you open YT in a www browser (on your phone)... Maybe capture an image of that at the higher res and send it to them. That would rule out the device.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't going to, because even on the desktop version in Chrome I wasn't able to select a resolution before. Then suddenly today I'm able to. So I took a screenshot, showing 720p 60fps available in one of KYRSP33DY's videos, and that the YouTube app still showed 480p as the max.
