LG explained the sound capabilites of the V30:

  • The LG V30 features a 32-bit Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC powered by ESS Technology’s SABRE ES9218P. LG’s Hi-Fi Quad DAC presents two new features: digital filters and sound presets.
  • LG has managed to cut the distortion rate down to 0.0002 percent.
  • The LG V30 also includes technology from partner company MQA Ltd. that facilitates high resolution audio streaming, the next big trend in mobile music.
  • The HD Audio Recorder in the V30 features the capability to use the audio receiver of the phone simultaneously as a microphone (Receiver-as-a-Mic or RAM).
  • A set of high quality B&O PLAY earphones comes bundled with the V30 for hours of listening pleasure with style.

Seems like there is no equalizer, but only presets. Can you tell me if at least the LG music player app has an equalizer?

This looks so promising and so far LG has delivered on the hype in the sound department. I use Equalizer+ app for equalizer settings amd presets. But the stock LG music app does have an equalizer as well as well as pitch and speed controls.

My LG music app only has presets. I use Poweramp which has both EQ and presets.

It looks like they are keeping the automatic sound profile based on what is plugged in. It won't effect me since I usually plug in high impedance devices but I wish they allowed some kind of override feature.

Your music app doesn't have the little equalizer symbol there?

Yes it does but it only opens to presets and that only with normal sound files. It is disabled for HIFI files.
Ok too bad. I actually never tried with the headphones in. I mostly just use Equalizer+ .

Hi Rez playback sound quality - Note 8 vs. V30

I can't find these specs on the Samsung website, but I'm sure they used to be part of the Note 8's specs:

Ultra High Quality Audio Playback
UHQ 32-bit & DSD support
PCM: Up to 32 bits
DSD: DSD64/128
*DSD64 and DSD128 playback can be limited depending on the file format.

Audio playback format
MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, AWB, FLAC, MID, MIDI, XMF, MXMF, IMY, RTTTL, RTX, OTA, DSF, DFF, APE
*Some files may not be supported depending on codec used.

I would love to bring my headphones (Audeze) and a microSD card with a couple Hi Rez music files on it into a store and do an A/B sound comparison between a Note 8 and a V30.

Do all the comparisons you like, Samsung is not using a dedicated DAC chipset and amp... so as good as it gets Samsung is not in the same ballpark.

Samsung audio is pretty average at best, V20 trashes all sammy phones in that regard, Shane v30 willl have single speaker though
