the camera that everyone talks about

I have noticed having the V30 for a few months now has made me realize I don't use the camera as much anymore. Maybe this is due to having to use manual mode, I can't just click and shoot.

Am I the only one that has been looking at changing devices due to just the camera. The phone it's self is great screen and battery are perfect. But that camera and front facing camera is horrid. I remember when the g2 and g4 were great.

Does anyone else feel this way?

There are certainly better cameras out there, but I think folks exaggerate when comparing the V30's camera to others. That said, I did expect better given where the G4 was.

No this camera is trash, in auto-mode.

Once in a while I get a good picture in auto mode, but most often I get a blurry picture in which everything looks like foam, and if you zoom in even the tiniest bit it is laughably bad.

I don't think anyone is exaggerating. It's really bad. It's got to be at the very bottom of top end smartphone cameras. Although there is a Gcam port that I'm told fixes it.

I love the v30+ and wouldn't get rid of it.

I was never huge on cameras anyway. And it's kind of crazy that everyone is walking around with a camera in their pocket now attached to their phone that acts like a computer.

My previous phones we're all Samsung, with better cameras, but horrendous battery life and no Quad DAC.

But can anyone say from which phones they did come from to the v30 and which phones they once had were better or worse than v30 camera?

I came from apple for a year but the last Android I had was the note 7 (we won't go there) but I've always had a flagship. This phone is great I feel that thanks to the camera I will be jumping ship when I can afford to.

My gf has always had iPhones now on iPhone 8plus. The camera quality is staggering. Beats Samsung Imo, not sure if it's beats Pixel 2.

But the v30 is so good in everything else, that imo if you're ok with sub-par camera it's hard to beat.

I'd miss the audio quality and feel in hand and battery. If I switched I'd gain a camera and lose in everything else.

This is the first phone I've had where I don't need to lug a wall charger everywhere I go.

I ported the Gcam mod for both the standard and wide angle cameras. Works great. I don't take selfies so the front camera is not an issue for me. The V40 is rumored to have three rear cameras and might be pretty good.

I must be in the minority because I love this camera. It's not perfect but I'm able to get some really good pics. I also have been using Google Photos auto-enhance feature to help give the pictures a lite pop.

Granted I use my DSLR for when I want really good pics but I am happy with this phone. I especially use the AI and wide angle camera a lot too.

I'm even surprisingly happy with the FFS considerkng all the hate it gets.

I must say those are all some great shots! There's no doubt about it I may be doing something wrong. Tomorrow is mine and my son's trip to SF zoo for his birthday so I'll be using it regardless that will be the chance for the V30 to win me over. The sad part is I really do love everything else. But for me my phone is my camera so it is important.

I have the V30, and my wife has an S9+. The S9 beats the V30 in most cases, but sometimes the V30 actually takes the better pic. The V30 is by no means a bad camera in my opinion though.

I think the V30's camera is good. Yes, there are phones out there with superior cameras; but I feel like camera reviews are often subjective. Sure, the specs and such are objective; but what may be unlikeable or sub-par to one "photographer" may be satisfactory or excellent to another. Camera performance is a huge point of discussion and debate amongst smartphone enthusiasts. It's hard not to have an opinion on which phone takes the best photos.

But I've never been one to choose a phone based solely on its camera performance (the Pixel 2's camera was only a fringe benefit for me). If the camera works and I get a decent picture, I'm happy.

This for me was only the latest photo in which I couldn't believe how bad the quality is imo. If you zoom in it is beyond what I'd expect to see from a high end phone.

Having said that I think it's incredible that phones have cameras at all on them now. I don't want to go too far up the road of uppity complaining about sub-perfect performance. The v30 is a beast. For me, an audio nut, it's the right phone.

I really do believe that any phone I get will be better than my previous phone in some ways and worse in others.

I get pictures like this one (may take a moment to load it's full resolution) regularly with v30+ camera.

The picture is exposed as I would expect.
The bright sky occupies more than half of the frame, so a shorter shutter speed to prevent the highlights getting blown out will underexpose the darker foreground.

If you had tapped on the car to set the focus point for "this is my subject", the camera would have also used that point as a bias for the exposure system.

Those complaining about the camera quality either have defective models or just don't know how to properly use it.
Don't know how to use auto-mode?

Mine may be defective, but I'm thinking less and less that it is as other people seem to be noticing the same things I am noticing.

Check this posters observation.

I bought this phone last year and i'm disappointed with its low quality of camera. The LG camera app applies a weird anti noise filter on every photo makes them smudgy. Installing Google Camera.apk made it lot better you can clearly see differences. Forget to add zoom level is same in both photosView attachment 285123View attachment 285124

My photos look exactly like that upon the slightest zoom in.

I'm not looking for manual mode use because I'm always snapping photos of fleeting moments.

iPhone camera is great but doesn't beat Pixel 2

Great shots except the window is blown out in the first shot. That's a prime area in which the LG cameras have issues with.

Seems like alot of people don't know how to use a phone then if you really think like that!

But that is not it after this past trip to the zoo the camera is ok at best. This is a personal opinion the pictures are not some that I am blown away by personally

Is that pic taken through a window. That might be part of the problem too.
