The Cancellation of the Note 7

honestly, I sure hope they don't discontinue the note brand or future versions just because they got the battery density math wrong. someone will make it work, or they'll just move back down to previous battery density levels (ala S7 Edge and others) and make it a TAD larger.

It is ILLEGAL for samsung to remotely DEACTIVE our phone or do anything stupid like push notifications. For me, I paid 1000 cash, no stupid plan, it's my phone, if it's not working by your remote control, I will sue you. My phone works great, I have to say it's much better than IPHONE. You can NEVER get my phone back to you.

I guess it depends on where you live. If you live in the USA it is not illegal. Samsung is working with the CPSC and as part of this work Samsung has recalled the device. If Samsung does decide to deactivate the device I am sure it will be in coordination with the CPSC. You have no grounds to sue. If by chance you found a crazy lawyer to take the case. After you lose Samsung will easily get a judgement against you to pay all of their legal costs.

What if somebody who had a Note 7 has been traveling for the last few weeks to a month and is now trying to return home to the US?

This is me and my flight home is tomorrow. When I flew into California I was allowed to use my replacement phone....Now I have no idea what I am going to do! I am at Disneyland and live in Georgia so I can't really cancel the flight and drive either. I am in panic mode.

Maybe talk to someone about the situation at the airport? I'm sure someone has an idea of what to do.

You will have to surrender your phone or cancel your flight. The TSA won't help you, airline won't either, they don't care.

Your only options will depend on how you bought your phone. If you got it through your carrier, then find their store somewhere in the LA area and talk to them. You may be able to return it and initiate the refund process there, before your flight. If you bought it directly from Samsung, or another retailer, calling Samsung's toll-free Note7 recall number and explain this to them. They might be able to make some arrangements for you. I'm thinking (but this is completely improvised, as I have no clue whether it would even work), the TSA agent would confiscate it at the security screening checkpoint at the airport, but would sign a document that he confiscated it, and you would then present it to Samsung for a refund.

Whichever option, it looks like you won't be having too much fun in Disneyland this weekend...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note 7 officially banned from all US airplane flights

Glad I no longer fly then holding onto my 7 for 2 more weeks until the LG V20 releases.

Backup all data To sd card and remove sd card. So you won't lose any data. If your flight leaves before noon EST then you should be ok, though I wouldn't risk it. I would take to a carrier store today for a replacement

Note 7 ban on flights

Note 7 bought in Dubai (preordered) , travelled to US - can't take it back for refund or exchange as airlines have banned to travel with it. Samsung helpline has no answer . What can I do ? Any help would be appreciated

Dang, just flew back from Arizona last night. I was wondering if this would happen while gone for the week and concerned I would be stuck on the way back.

Re: Note 7 ban on flights

I would keep contacting Samsung US and not hanging up until you've talked to someone who can give you some sort of response. Don't take no or "I don't know" for an answer. Call them, tweet them, post on their Facebook -- whatever you can do. If you paid for it via credit card, call your card issuer, tell them and see if you can dispute the charge. Sorry this is happening to you.

I would be surprised if the TSA goes through any disposition process for a banned item. Their focus is security and as alluded to- they do not care. They might empathize for a few seconds, but that is probably about it. If you read the bulletin, there is no mention of a disposition process. As near to 100% there is not one. Here is their guidance if on way back from trip:

Passengers currently traveling with Samsung Galaxy Note7 phones should contact Samsung or their wireless carrier immediately to obtain information about how to return their phones and arrange for a refund or a replacement phone. Samsung has provided guidance for customers about refund and replacement options, as well as how to contact wireless carriers, at Galaxy Note7 Safety Recall and Exchange Program [external link]. Samsung is also answering customers’ questions at 1-844-365-6197.

This by the way will probably add multiple billions of dollars to their long-term damage. A lot of Note owners are business / professionals. They will move on and not come back. The very segment (enterprise) Samsung has tried to lure has just now had the bridge burned and then blown up (no pun intended).

Seems no way in heck the next "Note" will have a sealed battery. Samsung would be foolish to stay with sealed batteries for the next few years.
