The Coronavirus Maze-How are we navigating it today?

didn't. You get a good dose of this Corona virus.
Its said to be 10 times stronger than the flu.
But where you can get Tamiflu for the flu to help you.
There is nothing for the Corona virus.
And it comes on a lot stronger than the flu.

I wouldn't take it lightly.

I might be in the minority...But i am taking this very seriously. The WHO has labeled Covid-19 a pandemic. The Surgeon General of the US has stated that 150 million people could catch the virus. That means some or all of those people will be out of work and or quarantined.
What happens to our supply chain when that amount of people are out of the workforce?
I am one of those people that prepares for the worst and prays and hopes for the best outcome. I also believe the glass is half full! Try to look on the bright side of things.
I am not a doomsayer be any stretch of the imagination! But i have enough food water and supplies to last my family 4 weeks if we could not leave the house.
I did not just buy all my supplies the last couple of weeks. I hate grocery shopping so we also buy a couple weeks of stuff ata time anyway.

Please everyone take the recommended precautions. Wash your hands several times a day. Stay home if you can. Disinfect everything.

Prayers and thoughts go out for everyone! We can get through this together!

Im in Miami, we have one confirmed case so far, but they have cancelled/postponed everything. No Youth Fair, 5K run, Ultra, Calle Ocho, Food and Wine festivals, Chili cook off.

Had pre-order Mulan tickets in a couple of weeks. Will probably have to get a refund.

Be safe out there!!

Stay safe! They closed an elementary school in my town b/c a teacher tested positive for it.

That being said, I'm not doing anything differently than I always have.

Thank you - you stay safe, as well! They've closed the schools in Ontario (where I live) for two weeks after March Break (next week). I'm wondering if daycares will follow suit. I hope so. We are all at the same level of risk as schools.

Went to MD Anderson yesterday to see my Chemo Doctor.

My chemo Doctor said the corona virus is a New Virus.

They didn't have test kits for it.
They are having go make the test kits.
And they are still making test kits to send out.

And they don't have the labs to process the tests, it the test was sent to the labs.
Think she said they got so many test to process, its about a 2 month wait.

She said starting next week. To get in MD Anderson Hospital is going to be a lot harder.
If you go the virus, You ain't getting in.
And don't go up there coughing.

They are gonna have to check you . Don't ask what that means.

So when somebody says why ain't they testing you.
They don't know what they are talking about.

They ended up closing all the public schools here yesterday.

Coronavirus

This is not the flu and anyone who is comparing it to the flu is uninformed.
We have a vaccine for the flu that greatly diminishes its symptoms.
We have no immunity to this while we have all built up some immunity to the flu.
We do not know how many people are currently carriers of the disease.
I hope this isn’t bad but it has the potential to be. I work in healthcare (a hospital) and have been through H1N1, Ebola, etc. Don’t blow this off but also don’t panic. Wash your hands frequently. Stay away from large crowds. Be smart.

What's irritating me more than the media scare mongering of the virus (it's not extremely fatal), is all the panic hoarding people at grocery stores. Like really, good for you that you have enough diapers to last you a year while there's now families out there who have enough to maybe last another couple days because the shelves are empty for their regular shopping trip. Stop being a bunch of selfish idiots!

I do understand your point of view , but this is not something any of us have dealt with before ,closing of all sports ,public events , schools, shut downs in other things people are scared and uncertain what's going to happen . Cant blame either this never happened before. We had other virus, diseases in world through many decades but not to stop things like this .

I am more concerned for my loved ones with preexisting health conditions than I am for myself. I certainly don't want the virus; but if I unknowingly have it (because symptoms take up to two weeks to become apparent) and get a loved one sick who is already dealing with another health condition, outcomes may be worse for them.

I think that's what a lot of people are forgetting about the virus. It may not kill the person who gets it, but it could severely impact others with whom that person comes into contact.

I agree with you on the hoarding thing. I mean buy a little farther out than you would normally buy, sure. But there's absolutely no need to buy 100's of rolls of toilet paper.

I am taking precautions, but I think it is super overblown and badly politicized for money and control purposes. I can confirm that as of a few hours ago there is ZERO toilet paper in Socorro, NM.
Below is one of the supermarket's toilet paper sections. I would've gladly gone to visit my parents for a week im Serbia due to the surprise doubling of spring break that New Mexico Tech did, but Serbia closed its borders and Trump locked up our border situation and is even trying to restrict interstate travel (do not ask how badly I as a libertarian am angered here). I don't know why everyone is treating this like a freaking apocalypse LMAO.

I'm in no way panicked right now, hasn't had any effect on my life other than the local stores having no toilet paper because people are weird. Someone near me bought 48 cases, not sure why anyone needs several years worth of toilet paper.

I do feel it's worth watching and everything being done is justified as a precaution to prevent it from spreading, just no more reason to fear it than the countless other things I could die from.
They might be trying to resell them

Are you, by any chance, saying that the measures being taken all around the planet are some kind of global conspiracy for "money and control purposes"?

This is not overblown. This is a pandemic. Hospitals are getting increasing volumes of sick patients, like the one I work at. If you're not on the frontlines, you can't really understand the gravity of the situation, and the potential for catastrophe like they're facing in Italy. It really is important to try to flatten this curve. I think we as a country can do it, but it does require everyone to cooperate and help each other out.

Although it may be true that the case fatality rate is probably not a ton higher than influenza (which still kills many people every season), the difference here is that COVID-19 is very contagious with a fairly long incubation period, thus contributing to wider spread. Since it's so contagious, it also means that hospitalized patients have to remain in hospital for longer before they can be sent home, thus creating a logjam. Those who suffer respiratory failure and require a mechanical ventilator also need to be on the machine for longer as well, contributing even further to the logjam (and the biggest fear from intensive care doctors, the availability of ventilators if the demand becomes overwhelming).

A lot of you out there are probably lower risk for severe complications because you're on the younger side (and hopefully don't have chronic illnesses like diabetes, COPD, or immunocompromised states). But remember, many of your family members and other loved ones may fall in this category, so please think of them as well.

Let's not get into this unless I feel like starting a thread in the politics subforum. I am not up for fights.

Agreed, let's not fight. But let's also not doubt the scientific reality here. We're all in this together.
