I've had this phone since the launch and obviously,... nothing else compares. Guess what, when it comes to screen size on pocket devices.... size does matter,.... alot. The black bar horizontally across web pages and many other apps is a non-issue. I don't play games but on photos and videos, it's not that bad, plus I can use one screen to preview and the other to display. The phone has a clean 2.2 installation, custom smooth running optimized apps for the dual screens and regardless of "mode" opens a full size swype keyboard for any text input. Most of the time I've got the phone closed but when I want to stretch my legs a bit and head out to the back 3.5" well,..... no other phone even comes close.

I agree with you. Previous to the Echo I had an HTC Hero which was a decent phone, but I didn't use it half as much as I use my Echo. The extra screen space as really transformed the way I interact with the device. I have no qualms with using it almost exclusively to surf the web, checkout Facebook, read forums, read books and even do some writing.

It's too bad the modding community seems to refuse to accept this phone. If I new anything about programming I would be on the Echo in a heart beat. As it was, my Hero was rooted, running Gingerbread, custom kernel and custom partitions, but it was all done because the community put out explicit instructions on how to do it all. I wouldn't even no where to begin!

I am in the exact same boat as you! Haha. I had the Hero rooted with AOSPMod Gingerbread and the works but it was all because of the community. I've started looking into some ROM development on my own but I'm still so new to the programming game. It would take me many months to figure this out. Hopefully we can get some hype for the Echo :D

It's great to hear some positive things about this phone. I was thinking of switching from my pixi- but was turned off by all the negative comments.

hmmm

Forums are always filled with people with problems. The Internet Echo Chamber is a dangerous fact of life.

The phone is really nice. I get better standby and single-screen battery life than my Pre-. In dual-screen mode there is nothing even remotely close (largest screen by physical dimensions AND pixel count for any phone). Hinge is solid as hell and impresses me every time I open it. Evo-class internals so its still snappy.

I'm still in my 30-day window, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it.

I would be a definite step up from your Pixi for sure. I would say the biggest negative on the phone is the size. If that doesn't bother you, I say go for it.
