The Future of Mobile Upgrades

Only a fool who can't handle discretionary income would upgrade any premium Android phone annually... I don't care if you can afford upgrades every six months... It's abject stupidity to do annual upgrades and you make yourself out to be a fool amongst your peers.

I know, I'm about to trigger paid social media influencers....

But seriously, for example, any flagship Samsung phone from the S8 and Note 8 & newer (ie. The S or Note lineup) is a solid choice for at least four years, and easily five years.

Virtually nobody upgrades laptops annually... And guess what, premium cell phones cost as much (and can do almost as much) as laptops.

Within the next five years I predict cell phone makers will opt to introduce updated models biannually.

If you can afford it, more power to you, if that is your thing.
I use to work with a guy that got a new phone every six months. Granted this was 8-9 years ago.
Some folks like to try new restaurants, some like to try new vacation locations, some like new tech toys.

That said, the shortest I have had any cell phone was 2.4 years.

I have an S7 and won't upgrade until it stops working. The newer phones offer nothing that would make ME want to upgrade. I used to upgrade every 1-2 years but that's when the newer phones were offering significant advances, IMO not so anymore since the technology is more mature.

As of now, my S7 is chugging along nicely and an upgrade isn't even a thought...foldable phones might get some interest from me but until they have all the kinks worked out I'll just sit on the sidelines.

I'm a note guy. Until someone else makes a viable alternative to the SPen then I will stay that way.
I use the Samsung upgrade program to swap it out whenever a new one comes out.

But I'm also a tech nerd ( electronic engineer by trade). So I usually buy another device or 2 in that year to play with. :=)

I'm quite happy to get a new device every 12 months. This year I got the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, while my Galaxy Note8 is my secondary device, but I will be giving it to a family member, leaving my Galaxy S7 Edge as my secondary device.

If you are happy to keep a certain device as your Main daily driver longer than 2years then more power to you, I simply don't and like getting new technology.

I do agree that eventually we will probably get biannual upgrades, and in fact, we technically are getting biannual upgrades, e.g. S8 to S9 isn't that different, but S10 will be a jump, same can be said for iPhone where you get an S model every second year.

mobile's world change everyday but sadly, I still have Samsung Galaxy S7 :))))

Why "sadly"? My S7 does everything I ask of it: phone calls, texts, camera, videos, pictures, email, nav, handles apps well, etc. It's a good pocketable size, comfortable to carry around all day.

If upgrading every six months or one year works for you, then awesome! I usually upgrade every 14-18 months. Different people will upgrade at their own pace and according to their own different sets of needs.

I came from the Note 3, then 5 and recently upgraded to the S9+ and couldn't be happier. I do miss the s-pen, even though I used it no more than 10 times in total.

I say if someone wants to spend money on it -- it is their money. I mean there are people who buy figurines and other things that I would never dream of buying but they do -- so are they "stupid" for doing it? Nope. They can do w/e they want.

I find it more amusing that you are so triggered that you had to make a post to say how upset you are about people spending their own money lol XD.

My thing is that only if there is a device which suits my needs and looks like upgraded version of my mobile in all ways then I would upgrade my mobile.

Only a fool would be upset by how others spend their own money. By your logic, one could say someone is a fool for paying for a BMW when a Vios can take him somewhere else more easily. Or one is a fool to eat a $100 burger in a gourmet restaurant when you can eat at BK/McDonald's easily. But none of these are foolish choices if you have the expendable income to do so.
