The Galaxy S23 is the easiest phone I've ever set up.

That's a bad idea from a security standpoint. Somebody can get a hold of the new phone & can potentially extract your information from it.

Also, you'd still have to copy any changes made from the time the new phone was shipped until you received it.

I mean, if you really think about this...

You have to have the old phone, unlocked and ready to be used as the Source. I would think that you cannot transfer the data from one phone or another without unlocking the source phone.

If someone has your phone, unlocked and able to access it, this would be the farthest worry from your mind, as you would have a lot more serious issues to work on first. I mean, if they can clone a phone without you needing to unlock it, then that is a different matter all together and a whole host of other issues.

I think they were responding to the discussion about shipping a phone with your data already on it... although that wasn't very clear. I'm pretty sure Amazon actually used to do this, don't know if they still do.

what is the benefit of saying "yes" to the google fast pair versus using samsung smart switch like we've done for so many years?

there must be pros and cons, right?

might some kind person explain to us please? thank you.

Well, I haven't used it yet, but the way I understand it is that it doesn't replace smartswitch, but augments it. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

The benefit, as I understand it, is that you shouldn't have to input your WiFi credentials, Google password or (hopefully) samsung password as it can just pull an auth token from the source device.

If you, like me, use randomly generated 32 character passwords, this is an incredibly useful change, as entering those on a phone keyboard while reading them from my password manager is a massive pain in the arse.

Does it transfer both Google and Samsung account settings and all Samsung apps configurations, like Samsung Pay and Secure Folder?

We don't know yet but your best bet especially secure folder is Samsung Smart Switch on PC

there isn't really a risk, the transfer process is non destructive.

That said, it is always a good idea to have a backup.
