The good/bad/interesting thing about high resolution screens

I bought the Rezound to hold me over until the Nexus release and was very curious to see how I liked the higher resolution screens. As you know the Rezound and the Nexus have 1080x720 screens, with the Rezound having a bit of an edge in pixel density (beating out the iPhone's Retina Display), but a smaller screen. I must say I love the Rezound screen and I am sure I will love the Nexus equally.

But here is one thing I didn't expect, but should have after dealing with computer screen resolutions, was that everything on the higher resolution screen is smaller! Just like cranking up the resolution on your monitor, the icons, and text and everything else are just smaller and sharper. Now this could be bad in some ways, but like with your computer screen, you get a lot more screen real estate to work with in web pages and similar settings. I was comparing it side by side with my Thunderbolt and was amazed at the difference.

You can always increase font size in a lot of apps, of course, but one side effect is that there is more space between all of the app icons, which makes it harder to accidentally hit the wrong icon. But nearly every app is affected by this, and usually it seems to be an improvement.

I replaced my Droid Charge with the Rezound to hold me over until the GN comes. With the higher resolution the web pages are smaller. I find myself zooming in more often than I used to just to make sure I hit the right button on the screen. It is kind of annoying, but it's worth it imo.

I just got back from my local Verizon store (Lawrence, KS) and they let me play with a demo unit they had in back and I compared it to the Rezound and iPhone LCDs and I couldnt tell much a difference between them besides from the fact that the Rezounds text seems annoyingly small. But from what I saw I would probably put the GNex screen above the iPhone and the Rezound last based off colors and saturation.

From what the guys at Engadget and the Verge have said on their podcasts, that comes down to a matter of taste. The Samsung amoled screens have always had brighter, more saturated colors while other high res screens are more muted and "natural". I tend to prefer the less saturated, more muted colors, the Droid Charge, for example, were way too saturated for me. I think it was Chris Ziegler at the Verge who said the Nexus and the Rezound were the leading exemplars of the two approaches and it just comes down to personal preference.

So, my guess is that I would prefer the Rezound colors, but that will be splitting hairs between two awesome screens.

Totally agree, but as with almost any screen (minus the crap Motorola pentile screens) you will get used to it over a few hours or few days and prefer it to other screens. The GNex display isnt anywhere as bad as the Charge but more than the Rezound and I want to say less than the iPhone but it was close. But I prefer the more saturated LCDs because if I am outside it displays better, especially if you use a matte screen protector.

Yes, if you are using a matte screen protector, you will need that extra pop. I don't like using screen protectors anymore, but I think you are right, you get used to what is in front of you every day!

I like the SAMOLED screens for the very dark blacks. On my Nexus S the colors become more natural once the screen is dimmed.

The Rezound screen is amazing and when I put photos and videos on my flat screen tv via the MHL adapter, it is unreal how good they look. I jave to say the 1080 video is just amazing.

Smaller size text was the first thing I thought about as soon as I saw the increased resolution. This happened on my PC when increasing the display screen resolution. Not too concerned about it as long as I can set text size which seems to be the case in one of the settings..perhaps I saw that only in the browser though.

This might be an issue for those at or over the age of 40 because at that age the eyes start losing some ability to focus on smaller objects. Oh well use reading glasses I guess.
