The iPhone SE 2020 basically just killed the Pixel 4a and other value flagships...

The edge lighting is very customizable and I don't find it any more distracting then a notification light. If there was a high demand for a notification light they would implemented that change already.

People don't go into the streets in masses clamoring for a certain feature.

But when it's there those who care about it are very happy to have it. That goes for any feature. I bet you that if Samsung included a physical keyboard case in the box similar to the ones they made for the S8, a decent chunk of people would actually be happy to slap it on their phone if they knew they were about to type a long text entry.
Simply because the thing would be right there included in the box.

The edge lighting as implemented by Samsung at the moment isn't nearly as effective as a simple LED. And it's more distracting because it's the entire perimeter of the display that's glowing.
But the main problem is that it only does it for a few seconds when the notification comes in, and disappears right after!
Most LED lights keep on flashing for at least 30 minutes after the notification arrives.

The worst implementation ever of this is Apple, which uses the camera LED to blind you whenever a notif arrives lol.

The only reason I haven't invested in wireless buds is health related. I don't want something emitting a Bluetooth signal right by my head all day long.

Having to charge it is another story.

Not having a 3.5mm jack also means you can either charge your phone or plug in headphomes, but not both at the same time (unless someone out there makes a splitter?)
That's a good point , not having something emit a signal to your head . Im sure nothing worry about but still .

People don't go into the streets clamoring for features but the major OEMs research rigorously in various ways which features are important to users. The importance of LED notifications, IR blasters and removable batteries keeps coming up in various threads usually in threads created for that specific purpose and the end result is always the same.

I've never had a random pop up notification on my phone asking me to complete a survey about which features of that specific phone I used/cared about.

OEMs don't necessarily need to put out a survey for you. They already have usage analytics.

I never mentioned anything about random pop ups about surveys.

Change happens and we can’t lament about every little feature that has changed on phones over the years. If change didn’t occur we wouldn’t even have smartphones and would still be using the ones attached to our walls.

When a feature gets dropped, it would be nice if it got replaced with another solution that's at least as good if not better.

You hit that nail pretty solid

I believe they usually do.
I for one love wired headphones and didn’t want to get Bluetooth but finally broke down and got some from Cambridge audio. They are awesome and now I’m not tied to my phone. I can walk around the house listening to a podcast or music and not have to worry about also having my phone. That’s a better solution for most people.
The move is towards wireless accessories; watches, glasses, etc. It is what it is.

Which means more individual devices to think about charging up. I get what you mean though.

That is something to think about. Hopefully they get a little better. The ones I got lasted about a month. They charge in the small case which holds a charge. Not bad.

I hate to break it to you, but you're being bombarded with electromagnetic waves constantly. Television, power lines, radio, cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, basically anything electrical generates electromagnetic waves. And those waves are being transmitted omni-directionally, going through wood, masonry, glass, flesh, and metal to varying extents.

Because Bluetooth has such a short effective range, it means it operates at a much lower power level compared to most other signals, like WiFi or cellular which you also have inside your phone. The only way you're going to escape such signals is to turn your home into a Faraday cage, eliminate all electronic and electrical sources inside, and never leave your home. Because once you do you'll again be bombarded with electromagnetic signals.
