The "Just picked Up My New Droid Charge" Thread

So I've been sitting on my Charge and couldn't get the SIM card activated. Finally, I decided to just go ahead and try giving Verizon a call yesterday, and guess what? They were more than happy to help me activate it. Took less than 5 minutes and worked without issue. They even asked if I was activating the SIM for a Thunderbolt or a Charge and didn't mention anything about not wanting to do it for the Charge yet. Maybe a good sign for those still waiting?

Wow. That's great. Surely a sign of things to come.

Unfortunately I had to return mine today. The data problem just kept getting worse. I was super disappointed. Aside from the data problem that seemed You come out of nowhere and kept getting worse, this was one awesome phone.

As an ecommerce Director I just can't afford (litterally) to be missing emails.

Thats a shame, my Thunderbolt did the same thing so its not a Charge issue. I have had it happen a couple times but I think it has to do with being in a bad lte area.

Yeah. It definitely happens in the fringe areas. The lte drops out and it is tough to get any data (1x,3g, or lte). It happen to me yesterday in the car. Once I went back into a strong lte area it came back. It took a minute or so.

Hmmm. The thing I don't understand is why I didn't have the problem at first but then did and it continually got worse. Both my Thunderbolts did it too. But at least with those the data would come back on its own. If the Charges data would come back on its own I wouldn't even care. The problem was for me it wouldn't come back until I toggled airplane mode on then off which was only after a while would go by and I'd notice I hadn't been receiving any emails. What tipped the scales was missing some pretty important emails. It was a very painful decision since the phone is fantastic in every other way. I was so happy with it.

I had to pull my battery on the thunderbolt to get it out of 1x so this is nothing new.

Darn. I'm on the fringe about either the TBolt and the Charge. Would love for some LTE goodness. Maybe when they get some of the problems hashed out (if the wife doesn't kill me first!).

:-)

Back in the game. Just picked up another Charge from Verizon this morning. Saved a boat load too. Now I'm even happier I returned to Best Buy for the data problem cause I paid $699 there. At Verizon this morning I paid $569. Well worth the switch back to my X for a couple days.

Something's definitely changed for me since I've been connected for over an hour and have not dropped 4G once. Also, I seem to be a bar higher at home than I was before. 3 instead of 2 in my house (heavily wooded area). So I hope the data holds, we will see. I don't even mind if it drops every once in a while, as long as it reconnects on it's own without my having to physically interact by restarting or toggling data. Nothing worse than realizing it's been awful quiet for the past couple hours and then noticing you haven't had data and have missed a bunch of emails.

I loved everything about this phone which is why I'm back to it. I'm super happy I saved the dough too.

Did you get the ED2 update. Someone posted that they have better reception after updating.

Yepper. About 5 min after walking out of the store. I'm convinced that some of the delay was software related (obviously), and that there had to be a fix in there for data. It's going on 5 hours and I haven't dropped data once. That was definitely not my previous experience.

I'm very happy now :-)

Good to hear. I think I'm going to recommend this phone to my brother from his Motorola Droid. The screen is absolutely amazing.

Have you guys rooted your Charge? Are they still having GPS issues? I know that my OG droid has much better GPS than my old Samsung Omnia and was hoping that they had this fixed by now.

So I picked up the Droid Charge this morning and here is a quick review. Before I get into the review, people who want to buy it at retail price wait until Monday. When I went to the store to pick up my Droid Charge, the another sales rep was telling a potential buyer to wait until Monday because they are going to lower the retail price. Now on to my review.

I have only one concern so far with the phone:

1. Sometimes the phone is runs a bit slow. When I have a couple of apps open, things start to lag. I'm noticing the 512mb of ram might not be enough.

I have a question for other Droid Charge owners, I only have two keyboards installed: The samsung keyboard and Swipe. I know I saw and read some reviews that state the phone comes with the froyo stock keyboard. Does your phone have it or do we need to download it?

The call quality is great. I'm in a 4g area (New York) and I haven't noticed any drop signal. Coming from a blackberry I do miss the led notification light.
Pictures are fantastic some of the best I have seen on a smartphone. Download speeds are really good on the 4g network. Will let you guys know about the battery life after a day.

Got mine at 9am this morning at Best buy, then went directly to verizon for accessories. Get the home cradle, it has a spare battery charger. It also comes with a spare battery and a wall plug. only complaint so far is phone is a little laggy at times.

Ditto. Both my TB's dropped constantly. But they would eventually reconnect. My only problem with my Charge previously was it wouldn't reconnect. But that problem is looong gone! Super happy and still no problems now :-)
