The LG-G3 update caused a boot loop, how can I get out of it?

How did work?

Before this boot loop, my phone was already randomly booting sometimes. But since this boot loop I gave up. I even bough a new battery and it's all the same.

I did the factory reset, as explained (with the phone connected in the AC), but disallow any update at all, and now seems that is working the whole day.

I can see that there's 3 Android Central updates available, Google Play want to update some things. Also LG want to run updates.

I'm afraid that any of those will start all the problems again.

Does anyone knows exactly what 'causes the problems?

And what's the difference between updates on Android Update Center, LG Updates and Playstore Updates?

Thanks.

My son's AT&T G3 won't even go into download mode. It just came back from LG. They stated: "No defect found" So clearly there is something wrong. I'm taking it back to the AT&T corporate store and asking them to replace it with anything NOT LG!!!!

My phone too was stuck on boot loop but now it won't even power on. Used a different battery and still nothing. Any advise?

Re: LG-G3 Update caused a boot loop

My phone has gotten to the point where it doesn't come on now. I tried a different battery but nothing. It started with it being in a boot loop. Any advise?

Re: LG-G3 Update caused a boot loop

I replace the battery now for one that is original. I also didn't accept any software update.

My phone is now on for weeks without restart.

Anyone knows if is safe to do firmware updates on it? In this case, the problem was just the battery.

Thank you! save my life. The instructions have to be followed carefully. I managed to to do the factory reset after several attempts, with the volume and power buttons. Now I am reinstalling all of my stuff again and updating to Lollipop, again.
LG has to do something about this. This is a serious LG flaw, specially if one follows the instructions exactly on non-rooted phones LG3 phones.

The hard reset worked for me :) With my contacts still intact as I backed them up on Google previously! Whew!!

Doing a hard reset : I removed my battery to get it to turn off. Put the battery back on, press and hold the power AND volume down button simultaneously. When the LG logo appears, release the power button from hold and then press and hold it again WHILE keeping the volume down button held down constantly. The reset menu should appear and then go through the phone system setup. Hope this helps!

youre the boss maan!! you helped me so much i really appreciate it :DDD
Thanks a lot !!

Hey NintyWorldChamp! Your procedure looks good to me, but I have one question: in what moment do make a back up of you phone, so you don't have to go through the settings all over again and/or loose data? Thx in advance.

in what moment do make a back up of you phone

Hi rucana,

It's best to always have the automatic backup enabled. This setting can be found in Settings > General > Backup & reset. Just use a Google Account to do this.
Also a backup to a computer can be made with the LG PC Suite.

I flashed my LG G3 D855 with the (Dutch) software of 2014 with the SD card removed. It didn't solve the issue. I kept updating the phone for hours and hours until it had Android Marshmallow, but nothing changed.

That was two days ago. Today I placed my battery in a working G3 and that phone showed the same issue! My phone booted just fine with the new battery. So, I'm ordering a third one.

I can confirm that is the battery and that is a recurrent problem. Definitely this is my first and last LG phone.

1 Year ago my problem started. On October, when the problem became unmanageable, I bought 2 batteries. One looked like original, the other don't (was golden). Using the second one, the problem was happening less often but keep happening. The other battery seems to solve the problem...

... but now the problem is getting back to happen slowly. Some random power offs when I am taking photos. I will buy an One Plus for replace this LG.

SOLUTION!!!?
I did feel the same, @Scratsh. However, right now I feel like "WTF, this can't be true".
TL;DR: Please put a strip between your battery and the SD card, like in the picture below, and confirm that it works.

After having the phone left off for about 15 hours, today it still entered the boot loop immediately.
BUT, from the moment I placed a strip between the battery and SD card it booted and has been staying on and working. Even without the strip!

For about an hour now, I have been able to use my G3, reboot it and even to remove the battery
Is this a coincidence? A new paper trick? I hope you can confirm it by doing the same as in the picture below.

Solve the reboot issue (boot loop) by putting a strip between the battery and SD card, just for a minute or two.
Note: the piece of paper is for a different issue

So, how and why does this work?
Putting a strip between the battery and left side of the SD card holder adds pressure to either one of the two contacts (poles) of the battery with the power control chip or some (black) chip (SS45AE A416D1). You can see this contact in this post of me in which I teared the battery open.

I tried to fix that battery as well. It worked a little bit, like the phone coulds stay on for 10 seconds after booting. I had to use a credit card though because the strip was to thin for this old phone

I think this can be fixed with a pipe wrench or something other tool too because the strip can be removed and all it does is actually bending or reforming the contact pin.

Update: it's been two days now and it's still working! However, I had to put the strip back this morning.

The rebooting has damaged the battery. The capacity is reduced. It uncharges faster than it should. Also, it seems to be completely empty and unusable when the LG says the battery has 40% left.
My third battery isn't delivered yet, but when it is, I'll use this trick immediately. Let's hope it prevents damage.

SOLVED!!

Your solution involving a tiny piece of paper worked for me!
My phone started acting crazy few months and, getting worse over the time. After a reset, the problem of switching itself off was gone only for few days, so I was about buying a new phone, not from LG, the next day. After reading your post, I tried your simple solution, and it worked. 4 days have past, no switching off!
Thank you all, guys!
Cheers,
Daniel.

Re: LG-G3 Update caused a boot loop

Hay Gys. hope you are all well. i am facing a rather different issue with my lg g3 phone. i could not found any solution on net. Actually it restarts while detecting network signals and then it keep restarting so when startup screen comes and phone searches for signals it restarts and o the loop continuous. My phone enter such loop when 3g signals get drooped from my network provider. But it should restart with 2g signals right? but it doesn't and it enters the restart loop on signal detection. Please help i would be thankful.
After all when i eject the sim card it starts normal. the issue is with the signal detection. i hope you could suggest a solution. Thanks

@ The Core did you get error messages about your SD card being unmounted/removed and/or the invalid SIM message? I started getting the SD card error message about a month ago randomly then it caused my SIM card not to be recognized had to get a new SIM, a couple of weeks ago. Now today I get the blue screen of death....so I'm thinking this paper trick might help. I also thought it was my battery and purchased 2 new ones. Which were both factory/original batteries.
