Kinda like the D2 and D2: Global last year? In addition to being global it has a faster clocked procesor.
Pretty much exactly like that scenario. I thought at the time how sleazy that was.

Sadly, it looks like the Droid 3 will lack LTE, at least the initial version.
I currently work at VZW, we just had a meeting and they stated for recent and upcoming smartphones, the 3G ones are the Droid 3, Droid X^2 and Casio Commando. For 4G, its the Charge for TBA, Revolution and Bionic for Q2.
I am disappointed that our only 4G LTE phones for the forseeable future are 4.3" devices. I was really hoping for a slider. I still hold out hope VZW will launch an LTE variant of the Droid 3, just like there was a global version of the Droid 2.

I'm hoping that VZW would soon release an LTE version of the Droid 3 shortly after the 3G-only model comes out. I wonder if the Droid 3 will come out soon since Best Buy has leaked it? Am I the only one that wants an LTE slider phone? It feels like most people are happy with slates, and rather dislike sliders. :'(
The Droid 3 with its specs, (qHD screen, HDMI out, dual core, etc), a physical keyboard and with LTE is currently my dream phone and I hope it happens sooner rather than later!![]()
Yes but you have to remember three things:
3. If you paid any attention in the tech blogs at all we all knew that both the R2D2 Edition and the Global edition were coming. I knew even before the D2 was released and chose to wait for the the global.
But yes it was kinda cruddy. I always wondered if maybe they pushed it out earlier than originally planned because the first D2 ended up being a piece of crap...
I prefer the stock D2 over the D2G. My D2 wasn't terribly buggy to begin with but, the NinjaBlur homescreen was not to my liking so i just through another ROM on it and it is definitely the most solid device i have ever owned. Battery life is ridiculously good. The D2 and D2G have identical processors so the change in clockspeeds just results in more heat, slightly faster performance, and shorter device life. I also figured that the D2 would be more developer compatible as it will be a nearly identical ROM to the ever popular DX. Example: my D2 on v2.3.3 and the D2G on v2.2 is still waiting for a comparable leak. Hopefully that will come soon enough as they are very similar devices. But would not suggest the D2G as being a superior device unless you prefer global roaming capabilities.
in your signature you're interested in the Nexus S but samsung is dead to you?
they make the hardware, and if you're unhappy with the updates just root and do it yourself.
I am sad to hear that its all but certain the Droid 3 will only be 3G, keeping it just away from being my perfect phone. :'(
I hope VZW would launch an LTE version of it shortly after the Droid 3 comes out. Or make it like their own Xoom, when ready, we can send in our Droid 3's for an LTE upgrade?
It's not that simple they would have to completely replace the phone since the LTE radios will not fit in the existing shell. The whole point of not having LTE int he D3 is to keep it from being significantly fatter than the first two Droids.
Just curious, how is Motorola able to upgrade the Xoom to LTE sometime in the future? Is there already an empty space in the Xoom to place the radio, whereas all the space on the Droid 3 is filled up?
