The Nexus 5's Price

it should go without saying that on-board storage price differences between otherwise essentially identical phones/mobile devices are unjustifiably high. A current reasonable price for storage would be roughly $1 (USD) or less for 1GB.

If the multicores has a low-power core present, then I agree with you. But most chips are adding more and more *HIGH PERFORMANCE* cores

True... but, and I mentioned this earlier, a single core running is more efficient than multiple cores runing at low speeds (if all things are equal). But it all depends on the power consumption of those individual cores... If you give me two procs... one dual and one quad, that have the same overall processing power when both are at full grunt (all cores cranking away at full speed), then flip off all but one core.... unless the quad is seriously messed up, that core will most likely be drawing a lot less power than the dual... sure, it won't have the horsepower, but most of the time, that isn't an issue.

Now, where I agree with you 100% is the silliness with displays. My Nexus 5 has a full HD display and it's as clear as day. Going higher is a complete and utter waste of time, money and power.... I see some are thinking about putting a '4K' display into a phone. That gets a complete WTF from me... there is absolutely no need to put in a display higher than the HD on my 5.... Now, having a graphics card that can support higher resolutions (say, with the intent of driving a large TV, for instance), I'm OK with that. But 4K on a 5" screen? Really?

Which manufacturer is thinking of putting a 4K resolution display into a phone? I am curious to hear what they have planned.

In the end, though, it's probably an issue of price. Let's say Google puts a 4K display in the next Nexus phone with an entry price of $600. That's $100 cheaper than an off-contract Samsung Galaxy S5, which only has a 1080p screen. People might buy the Nexus phone because you get a much higher quality screen at a discount when compared to the competition.

The rumor is that the upcoming LG G3 will have a 4K display... which is interesting because that same phone is also rumored to be the base for the next Nexus device. Now, it could all be BS.... frankly, there is absolutely no need for a 4K display on a 5 to 6 inch display. If I used the term 'overkill', that still wouldn't convey how nuts that is. To be honest, full HD should be really more than enough for even tablets twice the size.

Do you trust Google and LG to come out with a good Nexus phone at a reasonable price, even if it has a 4K display?

Well... seeing as Google is quite pleased with the nexus 5's sales performance, I don't think they will want to mess with it too much. Just because the G3 might get a 4k doesn't mean the nexus will... LG just builds the phones, Google makes the choices.

Do I trust LG to make a good one? Why wouldn't I? The Nexus 5 rocks.

We'll see.

Perhaps we'll have two Nexus phones in the future. One will have a 4K display; the other will have a 1080p one. The cheaper model will probably be the 1080p version, which should continue to sell well.

Is the Nexus 5 a budget smartphone? Why or why not?

Not really. Why not? Because it contains all higher end equipment. Fast CPU, lots of memory, reasonable amount of storage, high resolution screen, good quality camera, Gorilla glass 3, no missing sensors, etc. Saying a "budget" smartphone implies it is a low-end or low-quality device.

It is a smartphone with a great price because Google was able to get the best pricing possible from the manufacturer, and then they don't mark it up much, and there is no crazy carrier margin slapped on it.

Would it be accurate to call the Nexus 5 a premium smartphone?

Really, I am not quite sure what words are best to use when describing it. It breaks the mold in many ways. At the time it was released, it was at the top or near the top of all possible specs... so it is a high-end device, a quality device, but the word "premium" doesn't fit well (because that usually implies high price)...
Premium | Define Premium at Dictionary.com I guess if it fits any device, it would fit the N5 too in all other (non-price) regards, however.
