The Note 7 Battery life Thread

Me too. I was able to squeeze out 4 hours do SOT and 12 hours overall with 5% battery 🔋 life left using auto brightness and using it quite a bit.

I'd be happy with that if it were all the time.

Looks good, but battery life is something which should be monitored for at least one month & then decide. For Note 7, I think the battery life would be as good as S7 Edge, but not more than that.

I CRINGE so much at these posts. they happen after every phone. there are always around 4 guys who get double the standard screen on time like they've somehow managed to defy science. its not hard to put screen brightness at an unreadable level, using wifi and gimping your phone. its just not realistic and hardly something to brag about. ah you internet folk never cease to amaze

Quick suggestion then - when you see a thread titled "Battery Life," don't read it. Because the thread title kind of speaks for itself with regards to content.

I'm cringing so much at all these assumptions you're making. My brightness was at full for most of the day as I was watching YouTube videos, as well as going nuts on my usual social network apps, and using my phone as an actual phone (messaging, calling, emailing, downloading).

I wasn't limiting myself in any way!

This post was created to somewhat put everyone at ease since they were so concerned about battery life. If these kinds of posts irritate you then why would you read them?

It goes the other way too, when others keep the display on bright, all the bling on, social apps syncing, etc and get less than four hours. That is science too :)

SOT is so subjective I cringe at people expecting objectivity for comparison. Best to compare to own previous device.

Still unsure comparing to my MXPE. Seems (so far) about two hours better (maybe) and another hour in FHD mode, which still looks great on the display. As expected, FHD helps a lot for any GPU heavy app and can not tell a visual difference for games or most web sites. I use FHD though for longer game sessions. Device stays cooler when gaming as well.

oh so you have a magical device compared to the other 500+ reports of 4-5 hours max. congratulations. They do not irritate me, they amuse me because they come like clockwork. The people who get double the SOT of every other user and major reviewer. Who are you putting at ease? The forum and reddit is filled with posts reporting the standard 4-5 hours. Im not saying your post is malicious in the slightest, im saying its perhaps deluded and filling folk with false hope.

1. battery is completely subjective
2. the only other report of 7 hours ive seen is an exynos using only wifi and 70% brightness
3. every single snapdragon user i have seen (around 50-70 reports, including major reviewers) proclaim that the battery is not great and only gets between 4-5.5 depending on real world usage.

I'm not getting much more than 3 hours on mine before plug in at night but I'm using all of the bells and whistles plus staying connected to an Android Wear watch all day

I'm interested in battery life and seeing how much it takes in doze, how to tweak it, how themes help due to amoled. Im saying im amused at the super savers every release that proclaim double the SOT of everybody else. its been happening since the iphone 3g. quick suggestion, google freedom of speech

Just watching battery usage since Friday, it's way better than the N5 - which is an awesome phone.
Couldn't be happier.

Your first sentence, are you talking to me? That is a no brainer. But as OP said, he had near full brightness and went crazy with it but still got 7 hours. hence my posts

There's nothing wrong with using a phone that way. I don't play games and keep my screen at 50%. I get great battery life. But I use my phone this way because I don't WANT to game, not because I don't want to run the battery. The point is that everyone's usage is different. Take all battery claims with a grain of salt.

FYI - my assessment is based on living with a wonderful N5 for the past year.
The N7 definitely has longer-battery life, even on the first charge cycle.
It'll only get better.

My battery life has been average, compared to everyone else's that I've read. My question is heat. Is it normal for Android or Samsung phones to run hot?

Nope, not you :) The general premise of SOT comparisons.

I agree. I never got the point of turning down screen brightness - why buy a gorgeous quad HD screen and keep it barely lit? I always manually set my screen brightness to 75-80% of maximum regardless of impact on battery.

Um I turn it down to 50% because the whites on this phone freakin BLIND me any higher. To me, above 50 is overkill... so why waste battery doing something that makes me uncomfortable. And by the way, right now at this rate, I should get a bit over six hours.

One more thing. I think the average person when they're measuring battery life turns their screen down to about fifty percent. So the numbers do have some relevance when the comparison is roughly the same amongst users. As for why have a phone that can go up to one hundred percent if you don't use it, I always thought the one hundred percent brightness or close to that was for a when I go outside and need it. Not when i'm inside and don't.

You have a point and it wasn't my intention to give people false hope... just to let them know that at least some people are getting great battery life and that it's possible to get great battery life without limiting yourself.

Plus, it's a shiny new phone. I'm a little excited about it and about tech in general. That's why I'm on this form... to have conversations with people about our phones. I like to see how people are coping with their devices and if there's anything I should be looking out for. I'm sorry that that ignited such a reaction from you but you didn't have to open the thread.

I don't know why some people get so angry about people getting great battery life. I can't believe some of the posts I see calling people out like they are fixing their stats to get the best possible reading.
Everyone's phone is different in what apps they have and how they use it. For the people getting 4 or less hours, most likely it's due to 1 or 2 apps on their phone using way too much power, either staying running in the background or keeping GPS or some other service turned on.
I am only comparing my phone to my last phone, since it is running the same apps. I see overall slightly better battery life than my Note5.

4 hours of sot here. Not great. Just average
