The Official: I have my Gear S thread! Reviews, etc.

Are able to control the music on your phone with the Gear S, like with a Android Wear watch?

Yes. When you swipe to the media player select the three dots for options and you can select Gear S or Control Device. Conformed it worked for Slacker.

Another question. How does it calculate your data usage? For example, if you are tethered to your phone and go online via Opera or even reading or composing a message via text or email on the watch, but then walk away out of bluetooth range, would the data usage start then?

Not sure but don't think it would matter cause one way or another data is being used. That's still a question I'd like to know however in setting you do have options to monitor the data and set the reset date like on Android. You can set it daily monthly weekly. I can tell you as of now I showed 251 KB has been used since I got this at 1:30cst

Thanks. Regarding call forwarding, is there a way in the setting of the Gear S and/or phone to decrease the number of rings? 5-6 times is way too long if you intentionally want to receive calls from the phone to the watch.

That is a network setting. You'd have to call them and have them change the default 20 seconds. Not something I'd recommend but it can be done, however it will remain that unless you change it. You have them set it to 10 secs for example.

That's great that you can monitor your usage, and assuming that you can set a cap or warning on the data usage?

Haven't figured if we can yet...

Check my comment above. The only way it could be changed is to manually forward to your Gear number in the phone call settings.

No. If AT&T tinkered with it it's grayed out. However that COULD be due to the fact that I'm connected on the phone. I think you can when you're in standalone mode.

I give up. I've called and visited 5+ stores and no dice. Two corporate stores have them but refuse to sell. I also just found out I can't replace me tablet line with this watch. That REALLY sucks. So according to this manager either way I have to add a line. I am rethinking this purchase.

When I talked to tech support they said you could take that data Sim and attach it to the phone. Now whether she was right is the question. But she was very knowledgeable about the Gear S and broke it down to me. I'd take her word over a store rep any day. But who knows this is a new venture so somebody is wrong is somebody is right. Sorry you had no luck.

I appreciate your sympathy as I really am upset about this lol. Even if I do have to add a line it's ok. ..in the words of Triple H "there's always a plan B"

One feature I have found to like is the fact that if I'm using my phone notification are not sent to the watch. Man people can dislike Samsung and Tizen but I gotta admit this watch so far is very polished and way better thought out over Android Wear. And I love my 360 but there simply things like reading emails and text and find phone/watch and bunch of other that makes this the watch to beat. Period.

Picked up my gear s at 3 pm today from att. Ran 8 miles with it tonight at the gym. Got home and now its dead with a flickering, garbled screen. Here's hoping this was just a fluke in quality control. Frustrated.

Ok so here's the deal for me atleast. When out of range it gives you a notification that you are of range and Gear S will switch to its number. This is confirmed by going into your call settings on the Gear S. Look under calls. When connected to bluetooth it will have your device number, however when out of range it will switch to your GS number. I also texted my nephew and he confirmed my Gear S number.

Also I don't know how long it take to set up the call forwarding but it took like 2 - 3 mins for me for it to connect properly. This is present by a phone icon with a circle on the home screen. When the circle is complete it will let you know call forwarding is ready. I did get my text forwarded to me as well along with any notification. So until we go more feedback I have to report my test on standalone setup. But end of the day this thing rock. I mean the speaker is great. Talked to my nephew with 0 issues. Battery is a concern though. I will have to full charge and see what happens. I been on it extensively and only charged up to 60% but it's already half of that.

Same thing happened to me during my run...

How is SVoice in terms of quickness and voice recognition? More command features than on the Gear 2?

Please keep us informed. Sounds very concerning.

Okay, mine has been charging for the last 20 min or so, so I took it off the charger, tried turning it on and it did come back on briefly before saying: battery critically low. Please charge. It then shut off again.

Apparently, this thing has some juice out of the box, but then needs a serious recharge.
