The Official: I have my Gear S thread! Reviews, etc.

So far I only tested one thing...I sent my friend a text while outside of Bluetooth range. He said it came in as my main number, under my name. In other words, he did not see a new number from the Gear sim card.

Did you set up any forwarding also can you tell me if you have a number associated with your sim? This is what I need to happen for me

Sorry for another question, would you mind testing your bluetooth headset regarding the steps for incoming/outgoing calls and music out of bluetooth range?

I am really happy for you and others. Can you check later if you can download Opera the web browsing app? Also, did you buy this at AT&T store? For some reason, I thought you are a TMobile subscriber.

Yep, I downloaded that from the Gear App Store right away. Works pretty slick! And yes, I am an ATT person and did get this at an ATT corp store.

Yes, it asks if you want to set up auto call forwarding when you initially set up the gear. And yes, there is another number tied to the gear S.

UPDATE: I ran some more tests of my own, getting my phone far enough away so it's not connected. I called my work phone and it DOES come up as another number. Maybe the texts I was sending before were actually in range still. So outbound texts and calls from the watch may confuse people with another number.

Still confused how my buddy didn't see another number. Maybe it's because he sent me a text within Bluetooth range first.

Well as I sit right now, running tests, I'm out of range of my phone and streaming Milk Radio through the speaker on the watch. Sounds awesome...this is so freekin' cool! I literally cannot believe I'm steaming music on a watch, LMAO. Also placed a few tests calls and texts, works just like a tiny phone. Dialer, texts etc. Does that help?

Ha, cool beans! I know how important it is to have Milk music stream for you since Pandora isn't available yet. Yes, you have answered my questions regarding calls and texts. Talking of texts, can you take a snap pic of the Flesky keyboard? Apparently, it has improved just for the Gear S with a bigger display screen.

Thanks for the update on the calls. I sent a text to myself twice out of range and they both showed up with the Gear S number. That kind of bummed me cause it's not the cascade feature I read about in a previous thread.

Actually, I'm really liking this Milk radio! I didn't realize you could make your own stations too...it's a perfect replacement for Pandora! Here's the pic you wanted?

Yep, that's what I'm finding too...with early testing. I don't mind it personally.

So I just did another text message to a friend while out of range from my phone, and he said it again came up under my name. I'm not sure how that's possible with exception of maybe that he text me the first time while I was on Bluetooth. If anyone else runs a test let us know.

Just tried to use the gear manager on my note III to look for apps. It tells me there is an update. When I click update it fails and when I click update later it says I need the update and closes the app manager. Any one else having this issue. Notifications are cool. I have Dropcams at my offices and I get notified if someone moves after hours with a picture of the person moving in the office. Really cool.

Are able to control the music on your phone with the Gear S, like with a Android Wear watch?

Try rebooting both first...

Ok so here's the deal for me atleast. When out of range it gives you a notification that you are of range and Gear S will switch to its number. This is confirmed by going into your call settings on the Gear S. Look under calls. When connected to bluetooth it will have your device number, however when out of range it will switch to your GS number. I also texted my nephew and he confirmed my Gear S number.

Also I don't know how long it take to set up the call forwarding but it took like 2 - 3 mins for me for it to connect properly. This is present by a phone icon with a circle on the home screen. When the circle is complete it will let you know call forwarding is ready. I did get my text forwarded to me as well along with any notification. So until we go more feedback I have to report my test on standalone setup. But end of the day this thing rock. I mean the speaker is great. Talked to my nephew with 0 issues. Battery is a concern though. I will have to full charge and see what happens. I been on it extensively and only charged up to 60% but it's already half of that.

Just tried rebooting my note. Tried it again and it still fails. I can open gear manager and use it but when I hit samsung apps it wants me to update and I can't. it fails.

Another question. How does it calculate your data usage? For example, if you are tethered to your phone and go online via Opera or even reading or composing a message via text or email on the watch, but then walk away out of bluetooth range, would the data usage start then?

OK, try this...I had some funky error too when I first tried. Make sure you're on WIFI. Go into "Galaxy Apps", search for "Gear", then uninstall. Once that's done, try to reinstall again. Then reboot phone and gear. Gear will ask you to open "gear app", click on find or if you already see the gear s, click on that. Then your watch should say configuring. Don't touch it for a few minutes.

In regard to battery, I'm trying to kill mine before I fully recharge. It was right about 50% out of the box (a little over 4 hours ago), and I'm at 16% right now. But of course I've been playing with it a TON. I'm actually pleased with the battery so far! Assume I was at 100% juice when I started, I've dropped 34% from 50, so I would be at 65% ballpark. Not too shabby! I never expected to get any more than one day out of it.

For the LONG days, say I'm going out for drinks, I'll throw my cradle in the car and top it off before I go out. Assuming I'm going to leave my phone somewhere, and just use the watch, I'll want as much juice as possible.

Got mine today too at a local ATT corp store!

Here's the deal: the gear s has its own number (I picked a new number for it with the att guy) and when you call or text someone from the Gear S, it will show the person your S's number.

When someone calls your main number, your main device rings about 5-6 times BEFORE forwarding the call onto your S. It is pretty cool, actually.

Still trying to figure out the voicemail thing...

Additionally, it IS POSSIBLE to download the Music Milk app on your S and then connect the S w a Bluetooth headset and listen to the streaming music--all without your main device!!

This is great for when exercising, obviously. No more need to run with a device in your hand or pocket.

Thanks. Regarding call forwarding, is there a way in the setting of the Gear S and/or phone to decrease the number of rings? 5-6 times is way too long if you intentionally want to receive calls from the phone to the watch.

Set up voice mail from the Gear S

Setting>calls>voicemail

Click the number listed.

I'm gonna see if this can forward to my Voice number. That would be awesome
