The Official Release Date Speculation Thread

BB takes their employee discount seriously, i know of 2 employees that have gotten fired over it.

I wonder if it is still up in the air. If Verizon was set on the 24th why not just say it already? I get it has something to do with the iphone but the majority of those who bought the iphone were and are ONLY interested in an iphone, so I dont get whats with them delaying an official release date already (which makes me think the 17th is still a SLIM possibility) Ah well we shall see, I still think the 24th is the set date, just wish Verizon would stop playing games and talk already..

I tend to be with the people that say this is a smart move. From the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like a lot of people switched carriers to get the iPhone so the Verizon 3G network being bogged down is a moot point.

Even for those people that aren't interested or can't take advantage of LTE right now, they screwed themselves if they chose the iPhone because the Thunderbolt can do simultaneous voice and data over 3G which is the perfect stop-gap until LTE is launched in your area. And while a lot of people that currently have the iPhone may not care about LTE at the moment, LTE will be pretty standard in another year or so on Verizon.

is ATT HSPA+ slower than t-mobiles? I thought tmobile could hit 14mbps?

Also you're damn right about the TB being the perfect stopgap til 4g arrives since it can do voice+data so I may just go 2 year on the thunderbolt after all.

Apparently Verizon had a major issue with LTE handoff that was just barely resolved. I've always believed that something serious was going on behind the scenes which is why they wouldn't announce a release date officially. Plus they've also had issues with the mobile hotspot and Skype functionality, which I'm sure is affecting the release date. Verizon doesn't normally play games like this for the purposes of building hype

a line on my family plan has ordered the iphone on 3rd and received on 8th. vzw policy is from purchase date. shipping time is counted in the that 14 day period. that line on our family plan has until the 16th (from the 3rd).

It's from the date activated, not the date purchased, when you order it online.

HTC hush-hushes the FCC til March 31st

according to an article on Engadget about the Thunderbolt showing up at the FCC,
"Unsurprisingly, HTC's slapped the usual confidentiality request on this one, asking that any telling photos remain under wraps until March 31st. Considering what we've heard about a delayed Valentine's Day debut, could this mean an April Fools' launch for Verizon's first 4G LTE smartphone?"

Oy.

why does this keep getting worse and worse?
still a speculation

This is all so very exhausting! Never again after receiving this phone will I be an early adopter. Here is an article explaining a stealthy pic of of one of BB internal website. Stock date is still 2/14/11 and retail price is $750.

Not necessarily. Sure there are diehards that bought it right away regardless. By not announcing anything for the TBolt, it gives those that don't know anything or very little about it the choice of only the iPhone (as far as new phones goes). It's those people that I'm sure that Verizon is targeting at this point.

I just checked sundays best buy ad, it has NOTHING about the T-Bolt in there yet has a page advertising the incredible, inspire and evo. Pretty sure that squashes everyones hopes for a release date of the 14th or 17th. Heres some scans someone posted.

Best Buy AD Scan (2/13 - 2/19) - Slickdeals.net

Not that I don't trust the release date for the 24th but this past weeks circular didn't state anything about the iPhone release to VZW yet they sold it and took preorders

Very valid point. Granted you would think since they were advertising the T-Bolt last week for pre-orders if they thought it was coming out for the upcoming week odds are they would advertise it again.

I don't know. I tend to think that the people that truly wanted the best phone probably did some research. I mean I pretty much figured it was because of the iPhone launch also, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that the people who got the iPhone got the iPhone because they want to be "cool" and they were simply waiting for the iPhone.

I mean I'm sure if the Thunderbolt was advertised before the end of the iPhone return window there would be some returns, but I don't think there would be a ton.

I agree. The people that bought the eyephone were already zvw customers and purchased it on the 9th/10th....that's when the big rush was. I have not heard that they sold out in the past 2 days like the anounced on th 9th/10th.

Err, the Thunderbolt already passed through the FCC and there are pictures galore all over the internet of this phone and there were working models at CES. If Engadget truly believes that this FCC gag order for pics is about the first 4G phone (TBolt), then I officially declare that the writers at Engadget have lost their fruit-laced minds

My vote is for the Pyramid or some yet un-announced tablet

EDIT: Or HTC's first CDMA Windows Phone 7 device
