The Official Release Date Speculation Thread

If the "most people" you means are those who always pursuit for new tech, then it's not a big deal for them to switch the carrier. Especially for new customers to VZ, there will be no sweat to switch and port number over to a different carrier and get a much better deal / phone.

If the "most people" you means are those who are new to android market, then they may even never know what is "TB". And when they try to make a purchase on 2/24, then they will have more choices on the market.

When Galaxy S 4G or Motorola Atrix come out, let see how VZ to sell its TB.

Today, if you can't be the first, then you must have better spec than others. For TB, it doesn't have better spec than others. period.

By "most" I mean people already on VZW. I don't really see too many that are on VZW buying a atrix or a device on another carrier. You can can have the best device but what good is it if your service is not the greatest.

This whole thing is a mess and very disappointing. I'm still gonna get but you have no choice but to shake your head at how all this has turned out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the iPhone pre-order still to have the devices delivered on the 10th? So, nobody actually received the device before the actual release date. If that's true and they have the pre-order for the TBolt on the 17th, wouldn't it be the same issue? Meaning existing Verizon customers who pre-order would receive on the 24th (and Best Buy wouldn't have it either until the 24th).

Honestly, Verizon doesn't care. As long as the product works, they're going to get paid regardless. Note the 800 dollar price tag on the Xoom.

a line on my family plan has ordered the iphone on 3rd and received on 8th. vzw policy is from purchase date. shipping time is counted in the that 14 day period. that line on our family plan has until the 16th (from the 3rd).

Anyone thinking that the Thunderbolt will be released in any form on the 17th due to a tweet by Best Buy is going to be disappointed.

Im just considering based on the fact that other stores have said the same thing. In our systems it showed the 14th. So BB stores began telling people the 14th. So now they are saying the 17th. It must be based on something VZ has told them. So im not ruling it out. After all the 14th and 24th are no more true than the 17th.

Remember that Verizon NEVER officially stated the 11th or the 14th or the 17th... that was nothing more than hearsay and rumor (which is more often wrong than it is right). And virtually every tweet or Best Buy rumor was either pulled or recanted.

Phil and other major tech blogs have "insider" word from Verizon that the 24th is the date. Plus blackmax on twitter said that the phone was SUPPOSED to drop in March but was moved up to late February... the 24th is the date, champ

My advice to you guys: Just accept the fact that the 24th is the date. That way if it comes on the 24th as expected you'll be happy, and if it comes earlier then even better. But once you accept that the 24th is the date, the next two weeks will go by much quicker, my friends

agreed but once we get this phone we will all quickly switch track form being upset to amazement... I remember how pissed I was when the Storm 2 came out an there was no upgrade option for me and how terrible my Storm but as soon as it was all over and the OS fix came out for my phone I was in awe with how much better it work.

Ahh ... didn't realize they shipped beforehand. In that case, I could potentially see Verizon doing the same thing for the TBolt. But, I would seriously doubt that BB would have it beforehand.

LTE > all. Why would anyone that knows about Android phones go from VZW's LTE (12+ mbps) to ATT's FauxG (hspa+ has MAX of 6mbps). No contest, if you know anything about technology.

you are 100% correct.
i have accepted that it's the 24th. (it's actually better for me since i'll be out of town the 17th :-)
just curious if vzw will try a stunt like the pre-order on all the 2011 phones as a new marketing strategy to pull more in.
kind of similar to google and gmail.. those who had opened gmail account a long time ago got to be the first ones to google wave, google voice etc.

For someone like myself, it never even enters into the equation. I'm not in an LTE zone, and not planned to have it for the next year. And I have no idea about ATT's "4G" area as I've never looked into it. But, either way, LTE/4G is not really an issue for me. Also, from what I gather, ATT and Verizon have very similar coverage for my area. So for me, the issue instead lies in what is the best, most capable phone that I can get at the best price.

Actually the 24th makes perfect sense.Lock-in as many iPhone adopters as possible, then start releasing the new generation of 4G Android devices.

Maybe because they don't live in an 4G area and the 3G of Verizon is much slower than the 3G of T-mobile and AT&T in many areas....wait until the 3G network is clogged by all the iphone users that switched to Verizon. Believe me each carrier has its pros and cons but please don't do like one of them is superior....they suck all....in a different way...I switch from t-mobile but I am still scared that I could become worse with verizon I don't care about coverage in the desert or mountains....I am city person;) I care about speed and stability. The HSDPA of T-mobile can be blazing fast and if it would have been in my area I wouldn't switch. If Verizon sucks I will be gone very fast....I don't know loyalty....they want my money than they better have the service that I want or I am gone.

That was a in stock date only and the in stock date means nothing

Ah ha, I think we have the truth right here. Having worked at Best Buy in the past I should have realized this myself.

Best Buy gets a lot of stuff days in advance of official release dates because the suppliers realize that Best Buy is a huge retailer and known as THE electronics retailer (even before Circuit City closed) so they need the product as soon as possible.
