The ONE time I forgot to put my phone in my waterproof case

Waterproof phones have crappy speakers. It's just a fact. Would rather have better speakers and removable battery. I've had the water resistant Galaxy S6 & S7 active, barely even used it. There were reports of the Galaxy S7 Active failing water resistant tests so I wouldn't have dared to submerge it anyways.
The G6 and U11 are IP rated, and they have solid speakers.

Especially the latter.

It's tough to resist the urge to "check" BUT instead of inserting that other battery, you should have just taken out the battery, and then gone to the ship's dining/kitchen area and asked for a bowl of uncooked rice. You would then place the phone and the battery which is still out of the phone, in to the rice and let it stay buried for 24 to 48 hours, THAT would have given you a chance to save it.

I only came here for your pics.... Lol so if they are stopping... :-/
Haha nope they will not be stopped. Just got my replacement in the mail yesterday and restored from my previous back up when I got home so the party will resume shortly. Feels so good having a shiny new V20 in my hands. I was hoping they would make a mistake and send me the non T-Mobile silver model but they sent the same titan one again.lol Anyway after this experience I think I will keep the V20 after all barring a significant improvement in OIS/autofocus and overall camera performance.

A few unedited pics before the incident occurred.

True. There was a chance for survival. Just taking out the battery ASAP and drying it out might have saved it. Keeping the battery in will cause the battery to heat up and sizzle (saw it actually happen).

Wow, that's from the V20? Look like it came from a DSLR! Great shots! I just got back from New York and took a ton of shots. The camera is awesome outdoors.

Yea those ARE some nice shots! Loved the first one of his wife/girlfriend.

Hey thanks guys. Yes indeed from the V20 and that is my wife. We really had a great time.

I was hoping for some video of your snorkeling.. hahah

I know the struggle, I did that in Hawaii and I'm sure I looked hilarious to people.
