The OnePlus 5 Review Thread

Re: The OnePlus 5 Video Reviews Thread

I think the point is that folks who get early access to the devices sent to them at no charge and the press kits and all that are not always unbiased in their reviews. If they serve up a rotten review, they risk the company they're reviewing cutting them off from future review devices.
Oh. I suppose that's possible, however the few sites I trust to review have never pulled punches except for when it was really obvious that the reviewer as an individual had an opinion that clouded their judgement. I've never suspected AC, Anandtech and a couple others of having a bias in the way you're describing.

Sure, there are folks that keep their integrity, but many reviews aren't as established and need every edge they can get. I'm a huge AC fan myself.

There's always bias.

I've seen people throw out an accusation of bias when they don't agree with the review.

If you don't want any bias, just read the spec sheet.

Yeah people in forum are more honest than youtubers most of the time

There's a big signal to noise ratio problem in forums though. Reactinaries, FUD, people posting reviews who've never even seen the device... And there's even more bias. It's very hard to be honest with yourself when your own money is on the line...

People have a weird tendency to trust forum users, but they're usually just looking for confirmation bias... Forum users are no different than asking the opinion of a random person on the street.

Agree completely; good info typically comes from expert reviewers with no skin in the game - and using a variety of them tends to eliminate the impact of each's inherent biases.

Re: The OnePlus 5 Video Reviews Thread

Super Saf's comparison of the S8 and OnePlus 5 is very good in my view. He uses exactly the same tests each time and the same format. You can see for yourself the photos and videos and decide which you think is better. My conclusion from his review is that the cameras for the most part are both good, with the S8 having a slight edge for low light. Video at 4K is a very clear win for Samsung, but at 1080P/HD it's a win for the OP5 or a close tie.

Daylight shots are pretty much on par but some people will prefer one over the other.

Some of the OP5's weaknesses are made up for by having the zoom if you feel that's useful.

For me, I've got an S8+, and bought the OnePlus 5. I know what I use my phone camera for. I do use video a lot, but 1080P is more than sufficient for me. I do very little low light photography and the OnePlus is very good at that even if not as good as the S8+.

I love the optical zoom. I loved it on the iPhone 7 Plus I had for a few months. Overall, I think the camera will be more than good enough for me, and way better than the OP3t, and I am convinced it will improve with a software update very quickly anyway since OnePlus listens to the market and reviewers and fixes what they can with software. That's why they did that with the 3t.

To me, the performance difference is worth switching to the OP 5. No lag ever would be great.

Re: The OnePlus 5 Video Reviews Thread

People are way too harsh on this phone, it's really weird.

@j4ee you seems to like your HTC U11 a lot and why do you hate OP5 so much? Do you have OP5?
