The Pixel and Pixel XL Reviews

If the software isn't your priority, the Pixel XL is a hard sell compared to others in its price range that deliver more. Personally I don't often like software updates because the newer versions always seem to degrade battery life. I like the Pixel Launcher but I don't need a Pixel to use Pixel Launcher. Project Fi is really the main draw for me to the Pixel XL.

When Marshmallow delivered Doze, my Nexus 6 was getting better battery life than when it was brand new. But yes, it comes down to priorities. For me, waterproofing has never been a concern because I'm pretty careful with my gear (knock on wood), MicroSD would be a luxury but I've managed fine without it to date, and have a Meenova adapter for OTG I've taken with me when I want to bring a ton of movies, etc on long flights, etc. The features that have me sold solidly on Pixel that I can't get elsewhere are essentially universal network compatibility (including abroad), fast and guaranteed updates of essentially pure android, and the quality of Google's customer service. Items like making that service available on-device 24/7, background updates, and unlimited online storage are nice additions, but fall in that second value tier like the MicroSD and waterproofing would.

After reading all the reviews, I have moved from luke-warm about my pre-order of the XL to very excited. Coming off the Note 7, which was my favorite phone ever despite the disaster it turned out to be, I was worried that nothing would feel like it could measure up.

The general themes of the reviews are all very positive, and I am looking forward to a phone that clearly seems to be more than a sum of its parts. While I may miss a couple things from the Note 7, a phone that is consistently described as super fast with a great camera has me excited. I

I am excited too. The N7 was my favorite Android phone. From all the Pixel reviews so far I am optimistic Google hit a home run first time at bat.

NY Times review: Google Pixel Review: Assessing the New Smartphone - The New York Times

Don't read this unless you want to get angry with an obvious Apple fanboy masquerading as a neutral tech reviewer for the so-called paper of record.

Note: in the little test, I guessed that the photo taken with the Pixel was the one taken with the iPhone 7.

LOL! No facts = no care. You can burn a phone down if you want if you provide proof. Saying "Its slower" or "not as fast" and provide no frame of reference = opinion; not review. *shrug* This type of "review" isn't isolated to just smart phones; its consumer products wide. I see them...laugh and move on to something that provides real information. I did finish it and see a 20% reference but when you taught opinion over fact you just make yourself look foolish.

And camera pictures are personal preference; which is why I always find threads stating "Best phone camera ever..." to be a bit puzzling. I have seen quite a few of the three side by side (per media delivery) and some I like the S7. Some I like the iPoo...and some I like the Pixel. Whattya going to do there? Just means its pretty competitive and even delivering those three pictures side by side can be skewed really.

I still think the driving "hate" to the Pixel is cost.

The fact the guy ends the article with this "If you are uninterested in Project Fi and are not deeply invested in Google’s ecosystem, there is another route: Try an iPhone. Apple’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus outperformed the Pixel in every way in terms of hardware features.

And so far, to my knowledge, Apple phones haven’t blown up"

Makes it a joke.
