The real absolute opinion on wi-fi issues

I looking at buying a tablet and obviously the Transformer Prime seems to be a fantastic choice. The Transformer infinity would be my ideal choice but I don't want to wait that long. I was really hoping to get some of you opinions on how bad the wi-fi problem is. I am a college senior and I want to be able to use this for the rest of the year as well as when I am traveling and looking for work out there (wish me luck!)

I have heard the only the first models were the ones that had really bad issues from Asus themselves, but I am skeptical. Did the new updates help with this at all? Thanks for your help everyone!

There's no WiFi problem. At least not with mine. I have seen the WiFi signal at the bottom loose bars, but when I'm running WiFi analyzer, there's no loss of signal strength. Also, since the last update, the bars at the bottom have been pretty steady as well. I have never lost my WiFi. I've had this device since December.

I have had it since December as well, its a great device, the Wi-fi has gotten much better since the last few updates.

I have had mine for about a week and yes.. it doesn't get the same reception as my xoom or my gf's galaxy tab but it more than makes up for it in other ways. I think it has a lot to do with the type of wifi router and location. My Cisco at work.. no issues even though it's on the other side of the building. My wireless N linksys at home I had to move to be able to use the prime outside.

Still.. I have not regretted the purchase and love my prime. I just don't see a competitor.

I believe that ASUS believes there can be some wifi performance issues by virtue of the fact that the new TFP 700 has a plastic instead of metal bridge across the top, presumably where the wifi antenna is located.

That being said, I haven't noticed any signal strength issues and my TFP has the same signal strength as my Galaxy Nexus does in any given location.

But, I do think there is something up that could appear as a signal problem. At times when you surf the web you'll notice the device in both the stock and Chrome browser will hang for a minute. Sometimes you need to hit refresh to go again. I don't believe it's got anything to do with wifi, but i suppose it could appear that way to some.

It doesn't happen enough that I care but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the "wifi issue" people keep talking about.

I've had my prime for a little over 24hours now so I may not be the authorityon whether it truly has wifi issues or not but , so far, I haven't had any issues uncommon with any other device I have had. It seems to be holding up pretty well even in my room which is where the signal seems to be the weakest in the whole house. I haven't had a lot of field testing or anything of the sort, but that has been my experience so far. The wifi works.

I've not had a wifi issue at all, even before the updates. I've not even noticed much of an improvement since the updates were released. Wifi on the Prime has always been better than my phones reception, and even beats a $60 usb wifi receiver I have at home.

I will say that I've never had luck with GPS. I haven't even attempted in the last 2 updates (of like 5? 7?) but before then at least I could never get a GPS signal, even outside. For me, this doesn't matter at all. I have my phone for gps if I need that.

Ditto for me.

Sweet thank you for the input everyone. You have taken care of my concerns and I am ordering mine today! Thanks again everyone!

I have had mine for about two weeks through work, I think you will be very happy. The wifi signal does in fact drop but only by a bar if the screen is not facing the router. That is an issue on most devices nowadays.

I have never tried that trick. I will give that a shot tonight and see if that helps. Thanks! :D
