The Root Thread - Updated 3/17/2011

I'm in a little debate. Should I root my TB? I don't have a lot of experience doing this. I mean I did root my Xoom but that was the very first thing I have ever rooted and the first time I had ever used adb. Is it safe to try? Is it worth it right now or should I wait until a much cleaner root is available?

Probably gonna pass on the rooting for now since I don't want to downgrade to the older firmware, as required by this particular root method

Once we get S-off and recovery, however, I'm all game ;)

So we can root now?

Yeah. But I would wait till the nand is fully unlocked. Unless you don't mind downgrading your firmware.

ESPECIALLY when that firmware was one of the things that supposedly held up the release! I'm with you, I'll wait a week or two if I have to.

trying to lock bootloader?! Android has the best hackers, nice try HTC or Verizon, either one lol

nice looks like there will already be a good root solution by the time my phone arrives on monday

I'm not really a root n00b, but the Tbolt is my first HTC device. What exactly is "s-off"?

IIRC it has to do with he security settings inside the phone, Not a super techie but when things are getting flashed something checks to the firmware before upgrading. something about when you get an OTA that is not rootable you have the ability to re-flash a recovery image. I'm sure a techie can give you the better answer.

Ah, I see. Thanks!I recently installed windows 7 ultimate on a partition on my mac, are there any programs I should be downloading in preparation? I know I I need to learn how to use adb. I always managed to get by without it on my Droid, Fascinate and wife's Wrist.
