The upcoming N7

The one thing it doesnt need is a higher resolution screen. Its perfect the way it is. What i hope it has is streaming or at the least hdmi out, and a decent rear camera. Otherwise i'll just keep the first version. Its been fine -- along with ipad mini, ipad 3 and ipod touch 5. Not updating those, either.

these are my prediction for next gen N7

better screen resolution - not crazy resolution but definitly improved
thinner bezel
qualcomm processor
2 gb ram
rear camera
HDMI out - I wouldnt bet on this too much or even better miracast

Wouldn't mind an improved screen - higher res would be nice (1920 x 1080 seems reasonable since it's on phones now and considering the super high resolution of the N10), but even just using improved display tech (Super LCD 3 would be amazing) would be nice. I'd expect a thinner bezel as well.

I'm sure there will be a processor and RAM bump - par for the course. They'll probably keep the 16 and 32GB options, hopefully at the same prices.

HDMI out would be cool. Miracast would make sense since the Nexus 4 has it, but for some reason Google doesn't seem to be too concerned with consistency of features across their devices (the Nexus 10 doesnt have it)...

A rear camera would be nice, but I don't find myself wishing I had one currently.

I'd love it to have front-facing speakers like the N10, HTC One.

Basically, a 7" HTC One running stock Android would be great, please and thank you, Google. I like the build quality of the current one (I personally haven't had any issues with screen lift, etc), so I'd be fine if they kept it basically the same.

Clearly this is a combo of what I expect and what I'm hoping for... at the very least I hope we find out what the real next N7 will be next week at I/O!

I really want a rear-facing camera. I miss taking pictures on my tablet, like I did with the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

I'm hoping for a little bump in the size of the screen.....Maybe a 7.9 or 8 inch screen. While I love the feel of my N7 now, I would appreciate a little bigger screen! Second, would be HDMI out, and it seems that this is what most people are wanting with the newer N7. Also an Micro sd card slot would be cool too!

I hope for a faster processor. I can certainly tell the difference in speed between my N4 and my N7 and I would love a N7 that matches.

I also hope the build quality is better. The screen lift is rather annoying and it seems it is quite common. Thinner and lighter would be nice, but I think it is pretty good right now.

I really don't miss a rear camera since I have my phone.

I have pretty similar wants. Slightly larger screen, maybe a higher resolution, faster processor. The biggest want is the 2 gigs of ram. The difference in ram is really self evident in using Google Now on my N4 in comparison to my N7. And of course I want to the price point to stay the same.

its not going to happen. get used to the single "bin" of storage. if you can't, get a samsung tab.

Screw higher resolution. They need at the very least 2GB of RAM. Android is horrendous with just 1GB.

I absolutely hate using my Nexus 7 because of the incredible lagginess of it. It was fantastic when it was 4.0 or 4.0.1 (whatever it originally shipped with); but after 4.1 it became very slow and now after 4.2 it's just stupid on how unresponsive it is at times. And it's because of how much a memory hog the Android OS and all the apps that run on it is.

Give us 2GB or RAM or 3GB and I would be happy with every else being like it is.

Is anyone a little worried that we haven't heard more rumors about the next Nexus 7. I'm really hoping to hear something at Google I/O.

For me personally I want (and think is reasonable):
slightly larger screen (7.7-8inches)
Lighter! doesn't necessarily need to be thinner but they usually go hand in hand
better colors for the screen, the resolution is fine.
better performance (ram, cpu etc.)

After spending almost half a year with the Nexus 7 (my first tablet) I am convinced that I really like tablets and while I like the Nexus 7 it isn't perfect. The web browsing experience has become more an more frustrating, mainly due to performance issues and chrome not being very good (but somehow still preferable to the alternatives).

I'm trying to decide between the next Nexus 7 and either a full-sized or mini iPad. I would love to keep a stock Google tablet around in this form factor because I may move away from a Nexus for my next phone (no intention of leaving android for that though). But I really need the next Nexus 7 to lighter and be able to run chrome smoothly. I also hope Google repeats their strategy for the first Nexus 7 and offers it in retail stores and not just online.

Nope, not worried. Nexus devices and Android releases are always kept secret until it is released. N4 is an exception.
N10 and N7 was rumored but not a lot of info was leaked just like rumors about the next gen N7.

and dont worry next gen N7 is definitely going to be announced on Google IO. I am 99.99% sure.

I'm with you, the more resolution the better, some of these people talk about full HD, 3D, or Ultra Definition as if they're bad things, I've never known my 3D monitor to have trouble displaying fHD TV. They talk as if it's going to consume more battery, no, most power consumption is the screen, that's lumens (light,) not resolution, is it going to strain the processor, no. A Snapdragon 800 or Tegra 4 are UD capable that's 4 times the graphics processing ability necessary for fHD (1080p,) so it'll run cooler than a Tegra 3, will it cost more, hardly, it doesn't require more materials, or weigh more for shipping. No offence to them, but a flashlight at 1 pixel, 0 colours, 0 contrast, consumes more power, than a Nexus 10, at half UD resolution and 10 inches, frankly I'd love a 6" UD 3D Nexus 6 3D some day and that day is sooner than most think. When I put on my reading glasses I can see in 3D UD, do I love watching a movie in HD on my Nexus 7, heck yeah, would I like to see it in higher resolution, for goodness sakes yeah. At less than 4 GB per fHD movie, I could store 6 of them on my N7/32 GB. And have tons of space to spare, if they offer a 64 GB option, you'd have 20 hours fHD video, why is Avatar the most popular movie ever made, because it's a more immersive experience, than Mr Marconi's wireless radio. I get 100 GB p/m landline WiFi and I'd be pushing it to use 30 GB p/m, as for storage, the $92 2,000 GB HDD, as well as the $100 120 GB flash drive, or the $40 64 GB USB stick are mostly empty as usual. Now how would it hurt, if we get Blue Ray DVD quality on our screens, in a couple of years we'll have 1 TB Green Ray DVDs, as for gaming, Xbox 720 and PS4 both use 8 cores, 8GB GDDR5, AMD 8 series graphics, to pump out over a trillion floating point operations per second. If Wi-Fi ac can push 1GB/s, tablets could receive that easily in 3D UD, if resolution has quadrupled in the last 30 months, why wouldn't it continue to do so, well as is often the case I've ran at the mouth in techno babble again.

I think the Qualcomm processor would make all the difference. It's suppose to be more efficient than the Nvidia processor. This probably means that it won't lag like my Nexus 7 does.

Yeah.. N7 really starts to show me that another gig of ram is going to be useful. Next nexus is probably going to feature 1080p and 2gb of ram

Yeah, I can certainly feel the lag on my N7 when comparing to the N4, so the processor will be a big deal. I really don't care about the camera, but maybe I will get the new one later in the year.

The lag and the screen lift are the two things that bug me about the current N7 and might be enough for me to upgrade.
