ok so i have some questions, if i put a theme on my epic and an update comes can i still update the phone? like when froyo comes. Also how do i take the theme off? do i lose my apps and things like that?
To install a theme, you must have a custom deodexed ROM on your phone. So see this thread for your answer about updates.
To remove a theme, just flash your ROM again without wiping and it will overwrite the changes the theme made to your phone. Apps and data will stay intact.
Do you have a theme on your phone now? If you do then you installed a custom ROM, because themes will not work on completely stock ROMs.
If you read the link I gave you in post #2 you'll see that you don't need to uninstall your ROM to update to official Froyo.
Just curious- why prep your phone for an update? You know something we don't?
Also, if you're rooted- once the official stable froyo build is out- the root chefs will bake that into their ROMs probably within 48hours...
oh so the deodexed ROM isnt a custom ROM? i been using android for 4 months im kinda new at this, sorry >_<
But the real question is, why update OTA? I personally have never updated OTA, I always update manually. There are two benefits to this: you will get the update faster if you install it manually, rather than waiting for the update notification on your phone, and there is less of a chance of getting a bad download on your computer than on your phone since on your computer you can verify the download with a MD5 checksum.
I or someone else will always post a manual version of any update that is compatible with modified phones. So no need to go through the hassle of flashing back to a completely stock state.
That's not what I was referring to. From the link in post #2:
