AC Question

There is no £ symbol available to sign in to an APP with (password) when using the latest Android version on my Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+. The £ symbol is available to text and email with only. I have definitely got the UK keyboard version, and have checked every other setting I can find, but it isnt there. I got someone else to check on their exact same phone (different network) but they do not have it available either. I`m pretty sure it was there before the most recent Android update.
Also, someone suggested holding down the $ key in order for the euro or pound symbol to appear - but nothing happens when doing this. Any ideas please?

Hi, when you open up the keyboard, do you have the option to chance it to symbols? can you see the $ symbol? this is on page 1 of 2. Look for the button that says 1/2 - press it. This will load a 2nd page of symbols with the £ sign option being there.

Hi, what you explain above is what is available if I use sms or email. But for using an App that requires a password to sign in, then a different keyboard is presented to me. There is no other page other than pressing the symbol key which in that case only the dollar sign is available to choose from.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to register an account with us :) can you tell me what app you are referring too? just so I can test it out for myself. I tried my Ebay app and I was able to select the £ key.

Hi guys, thanks for trying to help me out. This happens when logging in to any App, such as facebook, Lastpass.com, basically any App that is on my phone that requires a password to log in. As stated back in first post, pressing the dollar key does not change the sign. Under language and input, Samsung keyboard is the default keyboard abd ENGLISH united kingdom is what it is set to. Samsung keyboard version number 1.0.80 (the latest version is already installed) Hopefully these pictures will show what I mean, before pressing the symbol key, and after pressing it, I only get the dollar symbol available to me. Lomg press of it does NOTHING!

This happens to ALL APPS, like facebook, Lastpass.com, email login, but when replying via email or texting, not the same keypad is available - and long press of the dollar symbol does nothing at all.

Hey - I see what you mean, I tried to log in to my BT Sport app and when you input the password the £ symbol disappears from the keyboard. I managed to find it though, if you long press on the full stop or the key to the right of the space bar you should find a £ in there :) on my keyboard it's the full stop, this might be different on yours.

Hi, yes, thanks! I tried that yesterday and only managed to get a few symbols up, but I tried it again now and surely enough it appears. Perhaps yesterday it was my sausage fingers preventing it from appearing but problem solved now. Thanks again! :-)

I have the same problem on my Samsung galaxy tab s2 but unfortunately your solution does not work for me. I am trying to log onto the Amazon website but I can't find the £ key on the keyboard that comes up

I had same problem with Samsung S3. I typed the £ symbol in Google search bar, highlighted it copied it and pasted into my password - and it worked!

I had the same problem on my new Samsung Galaxy S8. Pressing the . symbol does indeed bring up a list of special characters but by default, not the £ sign. I had to go into Settings -> General Management -> Language and input -> On-screen keyboard -> Samsung keyboard -> Keyboard size and layout -> Custom symbols. I then had to swap out one of the depicted symbols for the £ sign. It then appeared when holding down the . sign on password prompts.

I never had this sort of complexity on my Lumia 950 but then that never had 'cool app of the moment' on it. It's a trade-off I guess :)

Good luck!

Hi, if this thread is still live I have found a way to get around this problem. On a normal input page, cut a £ sign from the type and swap into the input screen you are unable to find the £ sign and paste it in there.

Hope this helped.

Another, and easy solution to the missing £ sign on the physical keyboard, is to add the virtual keyboard where the £ sign is visible and which appears above the physical one and has another advantage, that one can use swipe for input.

Hi There,

Sorry if someone else has already mentioned this. I had the same problem when signing in to my outlook account.

If you tap on the cog symbol to bring up settings then on to customise it will show you the hidden symbols behind the full stop and allow you to swap them out.

Hope that helps. :)

It's rediculous that this problem still exists, not only with apps. Try logging in on a website, where you have two pages of symbols available on your keyboard for your email address and only one for your password. Seriously??

SOLVED FINALLY AFTER 4 YEARSRe: There is no £ symbol available to sign in to an APP with (password).

Finally solved for S4 S6 S7 and S8. After my 4 year long search for an answer. I now feel so silly.
1. open the standard qwerty keyboard in an email or message
2. Press the !?# key which is the bottom left one (all three symbols on one key). It is the key that switches the keyboard from letters to symbols
Wait for it .........
3. touch the keyboard on any symbol and scroll the keyboard DOWN!.

That's right, the £ sign was there all along, nobody realised the keyboard itself had loads of extra symbols that can be scrolled down to because they are hidden off screen behind the space bar at the bottom of the screen when you switch from text to symbols. We are all so used to typing, we never try and scroll in a keyboard screen.

4 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately this doesn't work on the keyboard that's in use when you have to enter in a password. You cannot drag the keyboard down to get any other characters. It seems when you get this keyboard, the pound sign has been completely omitted.
