There's a storm brewing...

Thanks. I have never understood (or even tried to find out) how these resellers like Wireless Zone work.

Anyways,

So what do we do now ... while we wait for this phone to arrive? I am spending more time on the forums than on facebook or in front of TV nowadays. I think I need help.

I try to get my mind off it by watching Hulu or playing 360, I really hope its next week, tomorrow is a SLOW work week for me, and that will be torture...

I don't see the pad2 being a block on sales, I could see the phone5 getting in the way, but that's a different story. I will say at this rate verizon is late on their game and will have phone launches backed up and that will not give them the breathing room they need to move units of each Android phone.

OK, so I went to a Verizon store near my house on my way home from work today. Here is what I found out.
The sales associate asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I said I was hoping to see the Thunderbolt?.maybe the dummy unit. He said they had it behind the counter and got it out for me. I know this is not really big news at this point but here are the 3 bigger points.
The sales associate was extremely non-pushy and told the truth. He said they had no idea at all when the phone was coming. He was actually pretty upset/anxious. He wants a t-bolt also and is rockin an even older Blackberry than mine. He was borderline depressed and I could tell he was so dejected that they have been told nothing. He said they expected it on the 14th?then the next date in Feb., then today, he was pretty pissed. He said he has been trained on it for some time and further they do not have ANY phones in the store right now. (this flies against some of the other stuff I have read online about the phones already being in the stores). Is it possible that the manager of the store has them in the store but the sales associates do not know? It?s possible?but I doubt it. He was so non-pushy and obviously dejected. I was thinking of ordering online?but I may send my business his way (if the darn thing ever drops). How can they do this to their own employees? He could of made stuff up?but he didn?t?he was as upset as most of us are. He was good dude!

Next: The phone is entirely made of plastic. The silver you see around the edges?plastic. This I was not crazy about. The phone was extremely top heavy. This could be because there was no battery in it?I just do not know, and wish I would have asked. I hope this is the case because it was not balanced in my hand at all. I really did not like that?but maybe it just needs getting use to. Very different than my Storm.

Third: when I turned it over the kickstand was broken. Turns out the kickstand is made of plastic. I know my picture is not the greatest?but trust me, the thing is made of plastic. 100% positive. On the outside it has what appears to be a metal band?it too is really just plastic. I don?t really care, but the wirefly guy said he thought it was metal like on the EVO, I don?t think you would notice?unless you saw it broken?and then you can see what it is really made of. Not a deal breaker for me?but the phone did not have the same quality ?fit and finish? as my Storm. I have dropped my Storm down steps before?this phone does not appear nearly as rugged?I thought I would go naked with it, but it is gonna need some kind of protection I think.
That is about it?I enjoyed holding the dummy unit?even enjoyed the fact that as consumers we are not the only ones in the dark on all this.

All these rumors getting people worked up. Delay because of apple, the data plan.. All rumors no meat behind these. Just remember that. We don't know why it is not out yet. BB did mess it up, but never been a release date, even if it looks like it was the 14th. Was never announced by Verizon period.

Okay we return to regular programming. The thunder will be here by the eom.... Don't quote me on that. Lol my feelings...

Correction VZW DID release a time for release. Once they let commercials with a February month on it it was official.

Before then I was the biggest defender of VZW saying they hadn't released a date so people should relax regardless of what BBY did but once they let the cat out of the bag with that commercial the fault began to reflect on the once February 28th came and went with no phone release. If they never intended for a February release it would have been just as easy to pull the commercial before it aired just like they pulled it only days after it did air.

Now with that being said things do happen but not letting people in on those things is what has people frustrated.

I'm pretty certain that most dummy units aren't always the same quality as the real phone. Sometimes they are but most of the time(the few that I do see) aren't.

This is sad when Verizon own employees are getting depressed over the phone... lol.

Yea, it is possible that the dummy phone is not really the same "phone". I am hoping the real phone will be more rugged...but it appears it really is the phone...at least on the outside.

thanks for checking all that in.. what else is there left to do right?

i wouldnt worry about the plasticy feel as the phone's build quality show be very good and solid. its made from aluminum body. the dummy is just a dummy.. i dont think it resembles the phone to the fullest.

This has always been my experience with the dummy units.

I played with the bolt at CES. I don't remember it being top heavy nor being any more plastic feeling than the EVO. In fact, it had a very solid feel about it, and it definitely did not have a plastic kickstand. The screen in that dummy isn't even real. So, fear not I don't think you're getting what you saw today.

FYI from a friend that works at a VZW store, they don't get the retail units until a day or two before launch at the most. I wouldn't read into it if the units aren't there yet.

I'm almost positive HTC made the Inspire and TB backings metal and not plastic and I've heard the kickstand is very hearty, especially in comparison to the EVO.

Everything I've read from people with actual experience with the phone love it. This is going to be an amazing phone, the wait is just what is killing us.

To modify an annoying but all too memorable commercial: "it's my Thunderbolt, AND I WANT IT NOW!"
