There's a storm brewing...

yeah there's a thread on that. Seems like a poor design choice to me since most likely whatever you're doing if you're using the kickstand is going to be battery intensive. http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...nderbolt-mini-usb-location-going-problem.html

I think that was Verizon's decision, notice all there Android phones have the port on its side.

The Incredible was going to have a desk dock that charged while it was docked but that version of Sense didn't support landscape, so they scraped the whole accessory.

I'm lead to believe that this is the same case with the ThunderBolt, except this time, Sense 2.0 supports landscape

yeah, it has a kickstand but thats with emphasis on using it at a location you want to quickly watch something and theres no place to dock or charge it

besides, you can easily charge it with the kickstand in portrait orientation.

DO NOT use the dummy phone as your comparison to how this would work, because the Dummy is NOT entirely the same thing, it has the same design and EXACT weight, but thats pretty much it, the quality of the materials are not the same.

The other logical reason i can come up with is Verizon probably doesn't want third parties taking advantage of the port location and sell cheap desk docks or something (yeah stupid reason to think up)

But given the Desire HD's dock and car mount aren't even out yet and it launched back in November, says we may get a desk dock, but we already know were getting a car mount.

and in my personal opinion, the location of the USB on its side rather than on the bottom, is ideal for landscape docks

Long time lurker old CB member and it is time to post. Just talked to my rep he said they are unboxing all to flash firmware. I am a business customer of VZW and BES admin for long time so I get some info. As with anything could just be a rumor.

None of the Verizon phones have a kickstand either. Just seems that the whole purpose of the kickstand is defeated with the usb port on the side that faces down. My guess is that they did it so people would purchase the unnecessary media dock. And the Fascinate has it on the top. Does make it a little annoying when I'm trying to play angry birds and let it charge. I didn't even purchase the media dock for it as I consider them just a waste of money since it's probably going to be unusable on the next phone you get and the resell value is low.

Thats where your wrong

the HTC Imagio was the FIRST phone by HTC to have a kickstand, given it wasn't as high quality as the EVO/ThunderBolt's but it was a kickstand

and when verizon got devices like that back in the day, they were focused on multimedia entertainment as there target market
yes, usb is on the bottom, that all changed when Droid launched

One of the guys on another forum, that works at bb and has been trying to give us details, says when he went into work tonight and checked the system to see if there was anything new and said that now it is no longer in the inventory system at all, the sku # and everything is gone. So that's not looking so good unless they are changing it up for the release next week or something.

Lets just keep the BB guys out of this whole equation.... have they caused us enough stress already?:-[

Ben^5 said the Samsung Stealth had a much nicer screen but that his heart was still set on the T-Bolt.

I must admit, the Super AMOLED Plus on the Stealth is a VERY nice screen, but lets not forget how hard it is to see those screens when theres alot of light around, (ie: outside / snowy / bright - sunny)

Who brought up windows mobile? You said all of their Android phones had it on the side, to which I replied none of them had kickstands.

I was stating my point since you said none of the devices on verizon had a kickstand, so i took the liberty to correct you and show you that device.

I hope this is true...my fiance is tired of me obsessing over this phone and wants it to come out so I will get a life again. Little does she know, I will be just as busy playing with my new toy when it comes out. I need help

Hey guys, are we still set on March 17th?

I think so far. Haven't seen much except a driod-life link of a screenshot showing someone got a Verizon flyer in the mail that says the Thunderbolt is "Now Available". Don't know what that is all about.

I suppose I could see it taken that way but I was referring to Android phones with the usb port on the side since that's what you said. The Imagio has it on the bottom which isn't even relevant. And since we're correcting, there is in fact one verizon android that doesn't stick with the norm. It does look awkward in the dock though which is why I spent $10 on an iphone stand from walmart.

Side note, are there any other HTC phones with a kickstand that don't have the port on the top or bottom?

I hope that alliance to make a standard port comes out with something soon (even Apple is a part of it!). That would make buying car docks and chargers and such more worthwhile because they would work on multiple devices.

I like how the iPod/iPhone/iPad connector allows for charging, data transfer, AND device control, so hopefully whatever replaces micro-USB 2.0 for other phones can achieve the same thing; this way we can use one car dock for any phone and control the music player with our car dashboard (much safer than using the touch screen while driving).

OK. So I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine who works for a wireless cell phone co. and he says that his friends girlfriend, who also works for a wireless cell phone company, told him the official release of the thunderbolt will be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very very, very, very, very soon. As long as some guy named panda and his team can get the LTE network ready in time and the 4G pricing is in place and if that happens we will see the phone...............................................soon.

And if it doesn't quite happen just like that, we can all blame bennnnn, so we can feel better.

Thank me if you feel you've just wasted 10 seconds of your time.

yeah, it seems that they want you to buy as many docks as possible. That's why after purchasing both docks for the OG Droid, I vowed not to purchase another device specific dock. The ROI is basically nothing.
