Things you love about the new HTC One (M8)

My first Android phone was the HTC Droid Incredible and I came from webOS. I went back to webOS because I wasn't a fan. When HP killed webOS I went to the iPhone. I jumped back into Android with the Galaxy Nexus and then went to a Nexus 4, Moto X, Nexus 5, and now to the M8. What I love is how premium everything feels. From the build of the device, look of the device, quality of Sense 6, it just screams class. The device looks more like a fine watch than a mobile phone. When I was looking for a new phone and played with the S5, it felt like a leapfrog device I'd give my daughter. Not so much so because of the plastic build (though that is apart of it) but mainly due to the sounds that TouchWiz makes. It sounds cheap and coupled with the plastic design feels cheap.

I went with an unlocked version from HTC.com because I think we need to move away from contract phones.

I'm an auditor so I'm on the road all the time. The battery works great. And when it comes to the camera, for what I use a phone camera for, works just fine. I take pictures of my daughter and share them to facebook. I like the features built into the Sense camera app. If I want to do real photography I have a D7000 for that.

Bought 2 M8s when switching to Verizon. One for me one for the wife. We live them! Wife had a GS4 and its a world of difference. Battery life and build quaility, sense, everything just works. (Not to quote iPhone fans)

Show me your proof.

You keep saying this to get a rise out of people. The next time you say it without documentable proof, I'm going to consider it trolling.

You wanted attention, now you have it.

Please oh please. This guy is a pita of the first order.

The screen is the best, the sound is the best, the ui/ux is the best, it's the fastest, and I'm not even going to talk about the build. I love my phone.

I really love the feel of the phone. It's like holding a fine finished product.

I was about to change mine to samsung galaxy s5 because it has a loose volume rocker and a poor battery life but i wont gove up i will just replace it with a new one. I really love sense than the over featured touchwiz.

Why do people react so harshly to this? I have an M8. I love it. I had the S5 and loved it, too, but HTC suited my needs better this go round. I'm typing this on my M8 right now knowing full well how badly Samsung with the S5 will outsell the M8. Does that decrease the worth of my device? No. Does it invalidate the almost universal praise from tech and gadget sites? No. Does it make me enjoy my phone any less? No.

Both phones are great for a lot of the same reasons and some for entirely different ones. Just enjoy the device you have, compare how they work, and have fun sharing stories about them.

I actually like my device more knowing that Samsung will outsell HTC. I like having something that not a lot of people have.

Agreed. As long as HTC does well enough to maintain itself, I'm fine with it. It's unfortunate how this device is overlooked.

All said and done, I've decided to defect to the dark side... with a Samsung Galaxy S5. Will get one tomorrow.

Reasons:
1. Yes, the build quality of a HTC One is amazing but the GS5 has a removable battery. As a travelling business man, I find travelling with a spare battery making more sense to me.
2. In Australia, we still dont have the extreme power saving mode. God knows when we'll get the update.
3. The phone does have good speakers, but I don't find myself using it that often. I'd rather use the adapt sound on the GS5 that customises the sound frequency to one's hearing than use external speakers.
4. Kitkat launched with full lockscreen music display(which I loved) whereas the HTC One still downsizes it to one part of the screen. Pisses me off no end.
5. Fingerprint scanner although not as good as the iPhone5S is actually useful to me as my company forces long passwords on company email. Entering it on my HTC One is proving to be a pain.
6. I found to my horror that I almost dropped the HTC One on a number of occasions. It just doesn't grip as well as Samsung devices.
7. I'm absolutely sick of the 4MP camera. As an amateur photographer this is a HUGE deal for me...

These are purely my personal preferences.

Seems to me you would have known all of this before buying the M8, and I suspect you were going to get an S5 all along.

I gotta say, after spending 3 weeks with this device, guess what? I LOVE the camera, especially the software. The early reviews really got it wrong with this one imo.

I have to say that this is without a doubt the best cellphone I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with.

-the construction
-the hardware
-the screen
-the duo camera
-the IR blaster
-blinkfeed
-stability and performance

It's all there, and it's all amazing.

What a wonderful little package to put in a phone. Great job HTC!

Owned it for a month now. Everything I said still stands, however one thing I didn't comment on was the battery life, which after a month of use, has really impressed me. I'm getting around 6 hours screen time easy on the phone, which is great for me. The battery is relatively small at 'only' 2,600mah but it's performing as well as the Xperia Z1 I had a while back, and that had a 3,000mah battery. So very impressed there.

While I think the camera is great, it's not perfect. Certain situations where you require a lot of detail (wide open landscape-type shots) the phone won't perform as well as others simply due to the number of pixels the camera can produce, however for just about everything else, it's really quite good. Macro shots in particular is excellent and of course the low light shots are one (if not the) best on a smartphone. You can really tell when you're taking shots in artificial lighting at night and the shot still turns out clear with no grain. They look great.

Also my sister absolutely loves the Ufocus feature. She calls it the 'blur' phone because it de-focuses the background and she really wants her contract to end soon so she can pick up the One. It is a neat feature. In some scenarios, it can really elevate a shot (as I showed when I was showing her the new phone) whereas others it can just looks kinda crappy and half-assed. You have to pick the right shot to use the feature.

I think the camera is more a test of how good you are at taking shots and knowing the right spot for the right image. I feel if you've got good shot composition, then the camera can really excel. I've got no photography experience, I just snap shots as a regular person, but I find if I put the effort to really think about how to get a nice photo, take that extra moment to really line up the shot right, the camera can do really well. And that's kinda backed up by people posting flicker links of photographers who have taken shots with the M8. They have the expertise/experience on photography and they're able to get some excellent results. Much better than I would be able to achieve.

Everything else is great. Phone still speedy as hell, never had an issue with performance, speakers still really loud and make everything sound better, the screen is superb indoors and outdoors. The Sense 6 software is just such a pleasure to use. I have my phone completely stock, no rooting, no flashing no launchers, nothing. I prefer Sense 6 over Google Play Launcher, over Nova/Apex etc. I think it's one of the nicest looking and easiest/fastest UI's on a phone. I feel so content with the phone that I'm not even interested in checking out the Z2, S5 or G3 to be honest. There are phones with better specs, bigger this, faster that, but what I like about the One is the holistic experience it provides. It doesn't feel like a phone with feature X, Y and Z, but rather a sum of its parts with an idea and philosophy behind it all. Not just a bunch of features that happen to be housed together in the form of a smartphone, but a single idea expressed by its features and design. The phone satisfies everything I really want and then some. I'm happy with it, and feel like I will be happy with it for a long while unless the Nexus 5 (2014) or Android Silver line blow me away somehow. Otherwise I'll look forward to the M9....

Device is awesome! Came back to Htc after having the S4, didn't want another Samsung device after experiencing the lag on their devices because all of the features and bloatware that I never used.

- I love the build quality of the M8
- Always been a huge fan of Sense and Sense 6.0 is the best version yet
- M8 is fast, smooth, and responsive. In fact I think it is much more responsive than my Xperia Z2
- It is indeed a good looking device, although a bit too slippery (already dropped it)
- Speakers are LOUD

It does have a few shortcomings but everyone has different needs. Definitely needs a better camera and it would have been nice if it at least had wireless charging.

My 3 days with the device has been extremely wonderful. The phone is beautiful and elegant. Sense and BlinkFeed is by far one of the best UI I have ever used aside from iOS. The UI runs buttery smooth. The battery life is simply amazing and this phone just keeps wowing me. I would never ever get this kind of usage with any android phone unless I turn off every feature of the phone which makes a smart phone pointless. So I have the say that this phone is extremely efficient. I'm extremely happy I chose this phone instead of a 5s which was my original plan. This is truly a premium phone. It's sad to hear some people had issues or build quality problems. But honestly I think they just got a bad batch and if they can get their hands on one that from a good batch they would realize just how amazing this phone is.

Now that we aren't stuck with just the boomsound equalizer being locked on for speaker listening... It's just about perfect. I'll be rooting to add the Harmon Kardon settings today!

since I rooted I love everything. the battery, in particular, surprised me. Had the S5 and M8 since launch and ended up getting rid of the S5 last weekend. The M8 rooted will take some competition to beat. and i only rooted to get rid of the onscreen nav buttons.
