Things you've discovered on Note 8?

Recent apps and Picture in Picture are to separate and distinct features. If you're running oreo, open a video on the YouTube app. Once it's running, hit the home button. That's PIP.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to assume the size of the PIP window can't be changed.

yes but when you hit recent apps and then hold your finger on one of the pages for a few seconds you'll see a blue little window you can drag it into, maybe it's not exactly what you are looking for

I had a look at the PIP guide on tomsguide and I think that what you want will be app specific and probably need them updated for what you want for now anyway

Ahh. PiP. I knew the acronym but didn't know it was referring specifically to Youtube and only available to members with a certain level of membership and only on Oreo.
A couple of pieces of information that could have been useful to people investigating.

Right... Open the video in you tube, once it's running drag down from the top right corner. That's also PIP but better because you can resize, you know, like you want to do.

I realize that. I was specifically talking about PIP but...

Yes but PiP is a generic acronym for Picture in Picture and has been about since the 80s.

Were you expecting the majority of the people here that don't have both the red level Youtube membership and Oreo required, to know that this was the particular functionality you were refering to by those 3 letters and a picture of a red car?

You will notice that you got a reply explaining how to do what you required, once you had explained what you were using.
It's just best to try and put as much detail in the initial post as possible so that people can help you find your answer quicker.

Had you bothered to read my earlier post where I referred to PIP as Picture in Picture, you might have come to the conclusions that yes, maybe someone would have understood what PIP meant.

Also, I thought my original post explicit enough to get the understanding of what I was expressing.

But thanks for your input.

I appologise for responding to sarcasm with sarcasm before but PiP is a universal acronym meaning Picture in Picture. It was introduced on large screen televisions (whopping 20-27 inches) in the 80s so you could still watch TV while teletext was on. It can refer to absolutely anything where a smaller screen of ongoing content is displayed over an interactive screen.

Also many people may not be aware of the acronym in relation to Oreo on Android.
A couple of people seem to have taken the acronym in its common term, as I did and interpreted it to mean floating apps.

I was not saying that you were ignorant but that you should consider other people may be so about things you take for granted and expand upon the initial description and add replication details such as:
"When I use the new PiP feature on Oreo the window it displays is very small. Is there a way to resize it"

Rather than "Is there anyway to increase PIP screen size? It's a great feature but that screen is tiny! "

Just the mention that it's a new Oroe feature makes all the difference in how people would have read your original post.

A good bet is to assume we are intelligent but may not know what you are talking about until you put it into context. Especially with there being 2 Android versions in discussion just now and PiP seemingly new to Oreo which many of us don't have.
Just trying to help you help us help you.

I've failed badly in this area myself in the past but now try and remember to include the follwiing in requests for help:
Platform (ok, Note 8 forum)
OS
Functionality
Application
Reproduction steps
Other info (am I rooted, is it intermittant, If it worked before what changes may I have made).

I sometimes miss stuff but it's a good guide.

That explains nothing.

These are the apps that support the picture in picture feature note phones have had for 5 years:

Every app on your phone and in the play store, and anywhere else in the world.
PiP is native to Android Oreo.

What you are calling picture in picture is Samsungs multi window. Not the same thing. I've owned every Note and a few S devices. I am well aware of what features Samsung Note device have. PiP isn't one of them.

So one is a small window that you can only use in a handful of apps, and one is a small window you can resize and use any app you want with. They may not be called the same thing, but they do the same thing and one does it better... Exactly what you want. Why are you so hung up on pip?

I'm not hung up on it. I simply asked a question. Can PiP be resized? I found the answers was no.

I haven't had the courage to install Oreo yet because I'm so paranoid that it's going to mess up S Note/Action Memo, but one thing that I find preferable in Samsung's PiP over what Oreo seems to be supporting is the ability to have multiple PiP's at the same time. (I haven't found an upper limit yet.)

S Note/Action Memo is still fine - one of the first things I tested after the update. I just re-tested again after seeing your post - working just like it should. I just remember not to let it "Auto Update" in Playstore... I turned that off a long time ago and it's been fine ever since, even after the Oreo update! I'm with AT&T Sandra...

Just a wee thought. After the previous spin out of control it might be worth referring to Samsung's floating windows by name rather than PiP that Oreo is touting a a new functionality and more closely matches the original PiP feature developed for TVs.

I think the big difference is that a floating window will display the entire app, so the video element may be even smaller given surrounding app content, where the new PiP feature is designed to framelessly display just the video element of supported apps.

I hadn't realised that PiP was first used as early as 1976 in coverage of the Montreal Olympics to keep a close up of the olympic torch showing over wide coverage of the carrier and lead runners.
