Things you've discovered on Note 8?

I've been trying to reconstruct Scrapbook on my Note 8. I've downloaded the app from the Galaxy store and repopulated thre content using the Samsung cloud.

To surround other content I found Smart Select app for the Edge Side so I can make rectangles,, ovals, etc.

is there a method using Samsung Notes that allows the S Pen to circle content? Other than the way i'm doing it now?

Working for me in Europe, Romania. Maybe the american Bixby took some days off... :) Spring break or smth...

I was having trouble with browsing, sometimes it just wouldn't recognise my touch. Turned out to be the edge screen handle and the way I hold the phone causing this. The phone thought I was trying to use that, so it ignored other touches.

Cured by moving the handle towards the top of the screen, out of my normal hand position.
Settings/display/edge screen/edge panels/then the 3 dots (upper right corner) for handle settings/then drag the little whatsit on the right to where you want the handle to live.

Sorted me anyway, hope it's of use to someone.
edit; still on Android 7.1.1, don't know if this works the same on Oreo.

Yes, I got the same issue. I was using Dodol Launcher but I think the Touchwiz is still faster than any other launchers. Logically to me, I feel Touchwiz the default skin should be the fastest one right? I tested out different launchers but they all get rid of the bixby page which I like and use.

Have you tried Nova Launcher? It made my Note 5 so much faster AND doubled the battery life! I like Nova so much I just automatically loaded it on the Note 8 without trying Touchwiz.

I have! I think same speed as touchwiz. I like to keep my Bixby page and also I personalized out using the default theme store and really love it. Also using buzz widget which allows me to resize widgets. So I'm happy with touchwiz. From what I read with other users who tried both, they say that touchwiz have improved.

For the name of science, can you also test touchwiz and let me know your findings? If it's really faster now?

Yes, I'll have to check it out again to see the change. I've also been reading good things about both TW and NL.

Thanks for the conversation.

Hello gang, I'm a Windows phone user that switched to Android through no choice of my own. That said, the Note 8 is great and I love it. A few things I have discovered that irk me is that I can't use a different keyboard and the S pen. If I don't use the Samsung keyboard, I have to tap the letter I want to select instead of write it. Also, I linked contacts together, and they show up as multiple people no matter what I do. I have some synced to my Google account and some to my nine account, but they won't merge. This is a problem because I want to use custom text tones and I can't unless they're a Google account contact, and apparently my texts that I get are from my nine account, so it plays the default notification sounds. Am I missing something, or is there a way to make linked contacts work as expected? Any keyboard with better prediction than Samsung that also let's me write with the S pen?

I am using Gboard keyboard and can use the pen. All you do is hover the pen tip over the text entry area and an small icon for pen input will appear. Click that icon and you will be taken to the area to draw the text.

It seems this thread has deteriorated into a one stop shop advice for people who need advice on how to use the phones as opposed to the original cause of things you have discovered that you can do with the Note 8 maybe not discovered before.

Wookieepelt I can probably help you here though.

Regarding merging contacts probably just set Google as your primary contact location or just pick one. Personally I can't stand duplicating data across multiple sources as I can never trust 3rd party sync to keep it all properly up to date.
The best way though is to open a thread so people can specifically answer your question for you.

As for the S-Pen Keyboard issue. Why would most keyboard providers add handwriting support, for free, for a limited use case? There may be keyboards out there that do and many offer swype style input which may well benefit from the pen given additional visibility while swiping.

I also highly reccomend this: LMGTFY

First of All, in the settings - you can have the keyboard automatically switch to note pad which you ven write. I believe it's under the s pen settings.

For the contacts, the phone automatically detects for duplicated contacts.

Used the clipboard for the first time today. It worked beautifully. I was in the GoIfNow app setting up my first tee-time for the year (Yay!). I had rewards from last seasons and had 3 different promo codes to enter. I copied each one to the clipboard. The great thing about the clipboard is that it stays open while I pasted the codes into the app. Super easy, super convenient.

So here are some screen shots of using both Touchwiz and Nova launcher. Notice the Android system battery drain is higher with Touchwiz

And the Touchwiz...
Screen and cell standby are also waayyy higher. Think that might have anything at all to do with it? If you're really going to compare the two based on Android system usage you've got to keep all other variables the same, otherwise this is meaningless.

Discount the 'cell standby' as that (the Touchwiz capture) was taken at work where I have very little cell reception. The Nova launcher capture was taken at home (Wifi available).

Both captures were taken after I had each launcher on the phone for a couple days.

The main thing I was trying to show was the 'Android System" shows more battery consumption with Touchwiz than with Nova Launcher (which is my preference).

What kj11 is trying to say is Android System is involved in running your display so Screen on time WOULD matter!

Understandable. I was just highlighting how the 'Android System' is higher battery drain when running Touchwiz vs. Nova Launcher. That's all and that's why I prefer Nova (asked earlier in the post)
